Robin The Barn Kitten

On one of the last days of Spring we came down to our stable and as we were feeding the horses a little kitten appeared out of the spare stall. He looked at us as if to say where's mine. "Hi, I are cute kitten" he seemed to say. Needless to say he stole our hearts, and sure enough on checking with our nearest neighbours he was a stray.

We knew nothing about looking after kittens as our speciality is horses. So now it was what to do with him. First he had to have a name and as he turned up in Spring like the Robin's this occured to us as a name. Finally my wife being a big BeeGees fan and Robin Gibb just having died we named the kitten Robin in memory of Robin Gibb, we hope Barry will not mind!

Now we had a little kitten we had to find out how to feed him and what, how to train him, get a litter tray, cat door so he could come and go and decide if we should keep him in the house or the Barn. Since like all stables we keep a lot of hay and grain there is a problem with vermin, such as field mice and moles, voles etc. So Robin became "Robin The Barn Kitten".

When we found Robin we also checked with the vet and he suggested that the Barn Cat Role was better for the kitten. It appears that cats are strict carnivores and really do not do well on a diet containing too much grain or vegetable, like many cat and kitten foods. The diet the vet assured us he would get consisted of insects, mice, snakes, birds and bugs that he would find around the stable. Sure enough Robin, cute Barn Kitten that he is, loves to eat crickets that he finds in the grass. He also tries to catch butterflies, bees, flies and dragonflies, and has already brought me a field mouse and a couple of moles.

Since cats love to climb and scratch the stable is an ideal place for him to roam. He loves to climb fence posts, and trees. He clambers on to the horses water buckets, very carefully, he fell in once, and he will actually drink from them. Robin loves to hide and jumps out on to our feet, or if we leave them dangling our hands. To him it is all great fun and he can be quite aggravating.

Robin The Barn Kitten, is a whole lot of fun and really quite aggressive with us at times. I hope others will consider adopting a feral cat to help around their barn(s). Robin is so clever that he wrote about himself, I are Barn Kitten - How to Be a Barn Kitten by Robin.

Robin the Barn Kitten is so photogenic we have taken literally hundreds of pictures of him. We would love to hear about your experiences with stray cats and animals and the lessons they have taught you in the comments section below.

Nice! The dressage husband strikes again! I liked the lense. How's squidoo treating ya? I been thinking about writing over there. Any tips?

I find Squidoo is a great place to try out ideas to see if they are worth a Domain, and best of all it is free. The down side is that they own the property and if you break their rules you will lose the lens or worse the whole account. This is not a problem if you are ethical and do not link to one of their banned sites (Adult, etc.) Their rules actually make you a better marketer and it is great training and fun due to Squid quests and awards etc. They seem to get a lot of Google love and you can get ranked quite quickly. Hope that helps
