Some Early Warning Signs Of Cancer In Pets

In this article I will be talking about cancer in our pets. This will really hit home to me because my dog had cancer and we had to put him to sleep. I wish I would have known what I know now before my dog got sick.

Cancer comes in different forms. It can happen in any part of the body just like in humans. The defence is that humans can tell you that something is wrong.

So what can we do to see the early warning signs and symptoms of cancer. Treat your pet as a family member. If you do that you will be in contact with your pet daily. You will see if your pet is acting different in ant way. From eating, playing, running, jumping and anything that they used to do that they do not do now.

Watching your pet eat is one way.Their appetite change can occur for different reasons. Their appetite is a early warning sign that there is something wrong. It needs to be monitored daily by watching your pet eat and drink water.

They could have some type of cancer in their mouth or stomach which could make it hard for them to eat. They could have cancer of the internal organs which would make your pet feel bad. That means they are not going to want to eat. If your pet is losing weight, it is time to get him to the vet.

If your pet was very active and now is moving slower, does not want to exercise or seems tired, they may be affected with cancer of the bone. Cancer of the bone is very painful which means your pet would be very reluctant to move because of all the pain that they are in. If they have a limp, or have difficulty running or jumping, these are sure signs that there is something wrong somewhere. If your pet has a low red blood cell count and feels tired, they might be anemia, which is common in pets with cancer.

Some cancers can occur slowly over weeks to months and will be more difficult to detect because the changes are so slow. Keep an eye on your pet for any change in your pets activity. If you notice any thing, get them to the vet as soon as you can.

As I mentioned above, this really hits home to me. We had a Golden Retriever named Bailey Jon. We got him when he was 8 weeks old. When he turned 11 years old, his face was turning a little white and gray. He was slowing down, could not run as fast, slept a lot and did not jump up on the bed like he used to. We thought it was just old age. We were wrong. When we finally took him to the vet, he was limping, could not jump and his eating had slowed way down. The x-ray told it all. His right shoulder was nothing but cancer. We did not want to believe it, so we had another doctor look at it with the same results. We cried and cried a lot. All I could do is watch him and hold him all day. I think he knew something was going to happen. Four days later, I made the decision to send him to heaven and be with God. I could not take him, so I called my neighbor, and she took him to the vet for me. We spent our last few minutes together on a rug in the garage. My neighbor paid for the ashes because I was unemployed. He will never be forgotten. The picture you see is Bailey Jon. It was taken about one week before he left us.

I too had a dog that died of cancer at home with us, aged only 9. It has taken us 12 years to decide to get another one and this time I will be more watchful for the signs. Thank you.

It does take a long time to get over. It was a year ago this past Saturday. It was a tough day. We hope to get another one someday.

What a pretty dog, Bailey Jon was. I am very sorry for your loss, Daniel. Have had a similar situation with some very dear pet friends myself. One thing I did notice was a lack of appetite which quickly turns to weight loss. If your pet loses weight quickly, get them checked out asap.

I have been down this road many times, Daniel. I am so sorry about Bailey Jon. I believe we will have our pets back in heaven. So does evangelist Billy Graham. The next time you see Bailey Jon he will have a new body, one that does not age or get diseased.
