The 60d has a huge sensor. It's not as big as the 5d mark 2 or 3, which is a full frame camera and has a panavision size sensor, about 70 mm in size. Canon 60d video is created with the APS-C sensor, which is about the same size as super 35mm film, a standard theatrical film size. The Canon 60d video is amazing. Ultimately you will not be able to tell the difference between stuff shot on the 5 d or the 60d when put side by side. The much larger sensor of the 5d will capture more light and thus more detail, but can the naked eye really see the difference, I rarely do. Perhaps on a huge screen you would see a difference, but only nerds will be aware of it. Normal everyday viewers won't care.
No matter how you cut it the 60d has a huge sensor! The Video looks amazing too. Canon 60d video has beautiful natural skin tones, wonderful soft shallow DOF, with the right lens, great contrast, and amazing saturation. The problem is, it has relatively low dynamic range. In fact all of the Canon DSLRs have low dynamic range, which means to get the max out of Canon 60d video you will have to add fill light into the shadows. This is nothing unusual because I've been doing this with video since the 80ies.
Video has always had low dynamic range. Now if you bought a Red camera you could get more of a kind of film dynamic range in your video, but the Red is very expensive. There are also firmware installs from Technicolor that will help you increase your dynamic range for the 60d, but when I tried it, I got some strange banding effect in the sky. In that case I don't know what is worse, banding, or black shadows. My suggestion is to add fill light into the shadows, and shot with the contrast, sharpness, and some saturation turned down in the user settings of the DSLR.
No matter how you look at this Canon 60d review the video is awesome looking. I love it, and with the right lens it looks amazing. I would suggest getting a lens with at least 9 blades which will give you a nice round effect on your backgrounds when you are doing portraits, or shots that require a shallow DOF. There are ways of enhancing your Canon 60d video with a third party plugin called Magic Lantern. Among a huge host of professional features ML can turn up your bit-rate to 4.0. This can greatly increase the ability the do more in post production, when you need to do color correction, or grading, or effects.
Considering the price of the 60d, the Canon 60d video quality is out of this world. If you want to shoot theatrical footage, however, you will need a few accessories, like a preamp, a good mic, a good tripod, perhaps a fly-cam. A Mattebox would be good to get, as well as a follow focus, and rails.
It is easy to shoot movies with the 60d if you have to right gear, and since even with a fully pimped out DSLR it is super light, and you can simply pick it all up at once and reposition the camera to get close ups if you are using prime lenses. Canon 60d video is easy to capture.
