This is How to Set Up the Canon 60d Camera for Shooting Video

The Canon 60d camera is awesome! Why? One word: versatility. This is the most versatile DSLR out there right now. It has a flip out LCD monitor which makes it very practical for shooting video at extreme angles. The big sensor gives you the super 35mm film look. With prime lenses you can shoot clean video in low light, I’ve lit scenes with nothing more than a lighter using the 60d.

It is light weight, and fits on a Nono Fly-cam, and looks like a tourist camera, when you need to shoot in public places, and not draw attention to yourself. It can take full frame lenses too. And it has manual sound level controls, and more. Taking all of this into account plus the fact that it is one of the cheapest DSLRS, the Canon 60d Camera is a great deal.

This is how to set up the Canon 60d Camera for shooting video. If you are shooting video on it you want to set it up to perform like a video camera. That means primarily having the right shutter speed. That also means you will likely need a lot of light as the highest shutter speed you want to go is a 120th, and at the same time you want an ISO of about 100. Your aperture will be whatever your desired depth of filed is, which means you will need neutral density filters if you want a nice soft portrait style background outside in the bright sun.

There are other things you will want to do like shooting a flat image, which is what I suggest you do. Why? So you can properly color grade it later, allowing more flexibility. Its like shooting RAW.

For this turn down the saturation, sharpness, and contrasts as far down as they will go.

Next this Canon 60d review will focus on the shutter. It must be properly set for shooting video; thus, the shutter should be set for the Canon 60d Camera like this:

24fps x 2= 1/48th shutter speed

30fps x 2= 1/60th shutter speed

60fps x 2= 1/120th shutter speed

Why? You need a 180 degree shutter. The way to do this is set it twice the amount of your fps.

I love the fact that you can adjust the white balance in real time with the wheel, and it goes fast with the Canon 60d Camera. If you want your shot to be warmer or colder just adjust it on the fly. The increments are big so it takes no time at all to do it. This is better than the Sony XDCAM HD, where manual white balance changes take forever as the increments are so small, so this kind of white balance adjustment is useless for ENG shooting, to bad.
