There really are unlimited trick photography ideas out there if you open your eyes and take in the things around you. You can use buildings and objects, but one of the best ways to take some trick photos is by using the sun. Here’s some things you could try.
1. Sun Up or Sun Down. The best times to get the sun involved in your trick photography is either at sunset or when the sun is first coming up. There are a few reasons what that is the case. First, the sun looks biggest when it’s as low in the sky as it can possibly be. And the bigger it is, the better for using in your photos.
The other reason is that the light is less intense at those times of day. If you were to try to take a picture of the sun in the middle of the day, you wouldn’t anything that looked like a ball. And in order to be useful for photos, the sun needs to have a shape.
2. Kick It. Or punch it, or throw it. The other thing that\s good about shooting at sunset or sunrise is that the sun is at the same height you are. And that makes the trick of forced perspective come into play. The camera isn’t very good when it comes to depth perception, so if the sun is at the same level as, say, your head, it will look like it’s right beside you.
And that way you can make it look like you’re some kind of intergalactic hero, who’s able to throw the sun around any way you feel like it.
3. Hold It. This is another one that is quite simple but can be used quite effectively. You can see it in the attached photo. In that case the sun is obviously made to look like a basketball, but you don’t need to stick to making it look like a ball.
Think about how many things in our world have the shape of a ball. Like meatballs, or a globe. The only things limiting you are your imagination and your mastery of trick photography techniques.
So there’s a few reasons why using the sun for your trick photos is a great way to make some eye catching photographs. But remember to get creative. There are all kinds of ways to play with an idea that seems pretty basic, but like anything, you only get out of if what you put into it.
