Trick Photography Projects For Children

It's the summer holidays and school is finally over, at least for the next couple of months and I am sure that you as a fellow parent would ask yourselves this question - just like the other millions of parents around the globe - "What cost effective way can I keep my kids occupied and out of trouble during the holidays?" Yes, there are video games and the like but video games do not bring out the creativity in kids and it is not a healthy habit as well - being stuck inside all day in front of the 50 inch plasma TV and not getting a breath of fresh air! Other popular options involve spending large sums of money to send your kids off to camp - "Camp Boring again this year Mom, oh please!" - not a great idea.

Why not get your kids involved in a hobby that encourages the use of one's creative juices, makes you use your imagination, involves getting into the outdoors and is very cost effective. What hobby you may ask? Photography, more importantly, teaching your kids about the power of creating stunning digital photographs with special effects may be the answer to your prayers this summer as a parent.

What equipment and materials would one need for such a project you may ask? First off, we would need to get our hands on a digital camera. Many of us have a point-and-shoot digital camera lying around the house that we could use and more ideally a low-end, entry level DSLR camera would be better to use. The reason that a DSLR camera may be better to use is because there are more functions that you would be able to adjust that would be required to create those special effects within the digital photo. Entry level DSLR cameras today are very affordable and brand new one can be purchased for a couple of hundred dollars. You may be even able to find a second hand one on Craig's List or Kijiji for even less money as well.

Next, you will need to get yourself a small torch or light pen as well as some props from around the house. These props can be anything and range from Dad's old bottle collection to the plant pots in your backyard.

So we have our picture taking equipment and the props so what else do we need to inspire us to undertake our photography project? A comprehensive ebook and instructional videos that illustrate the various photography projects that you and your kids can complete.

There is a really good trick photography and special effects program that can be accessed via the Internet that comes complete with a 300 page ebook and up to 9 hours of videos covering lots and lots of photography projects that would keep your children busy and entertained for most of the summer. The material is split into 3 parts. The first part covers projects that focus on the use of your digital camera, the second part focuses on shutter speeds and using light pens to create visually stunning effects and the last part shows you how to use digital photography editing programs like Adobe Photoshop to create those special effects in those digital photographs that will have your kids friends wondering how they were able to create those great looking images.

What is great about the content is that anyone can use it to their benefit: from the amateur point and shoot person who takes casual photos to the professional photographer will find that this material will help them immensely.

My next article will focus of my top 3 favorite entry level DSLR cameras. Have a great day! Tony.
