If you’ve been taking picture for a while, chances are that you may have gotten a little bored with what you’re doing. Even if you love something, there comes a time when you need a shot in the arm, or a new way of looking at the thing you love doing.
Trick photography techniques might be a good way to get back the passion that you first had for taking great pictures. There are a lot of ways to make really cool pictures that don’t require a lot of fancy equipment (there are also a lot of ways to make really cool pictures if you have unlimited funds and all kinds of fancy toys).
A lot of what goes into making a great photograph is the creativity behind it, and it’s much easier to be creative when you enjoy what you’re doing. Something that can be fun is taking a levitation photo. Not everyone will think this is cool, but it can be really challenging to create a photo that looks as though someone or something is floating.
Location
A cool location always makes for a better photograph. It adds a lot of dramatic effect to the picture if the view can imagine what would happen if whatever looks like it’s hanging in the air were to drop.
For example, if you saw a picture of a guy levitating over a grass field, it wouldn’t really phase you. But if you saw a picture of a guy levitating over some water your mind would immediately create a picture of that guy crashing into the water. Much more dramatic.
Finding a pool or a lake shouldn’t be too hard. Once you have the location, the next thing you need to focus on is the expression of the model.
Expression
The key here is to have the person look as though he is lying down or sitting normally. Taking a picture of someone jumping can look cool too, but that’s not what we’re after here. So the person flying through the air needs to maintain a facial expression that resembles, as much as possible, a normal looking face. That is the key to the picture. Like any other trick photography techniques, getting this shot right will require some patience.
Patience
You basically get one try to get the guy with dry clothes and dry hair. If the shot doesn’t work, then you will have to wait until he dries off enough for him to look like he hasn’t been in the water again.
So make sure you practice first with a rock or ball or some other kind of object. Make sure you can take the shot without any kind of motion blur. You’ll want a shutter speed of at least 1/200 if not 1/300 and maybe even faster. Play around and see what works for your situation. Using these kinds of trick photography techniques might just rekindle your passion for being creative with your photographs.
