Donald Trump has waded into Scottish politics once again, and once again spat his dummy out, and thrown his toys out of his pram. His claims in recent newspaper and radio interviews is that if Scotland goes ahead with it's development of wind turbines off the coast of Balmedie, Aberdeenshire then we are all doomed, and that he will not build the hotel and houses that he had originally planned.
He has already halted work until the situation with the wind turbines is ratified, and has sent a letter of protest to Alex Salmond telling him exactly how he feels about the situation.
Donald, who's mother is Scottish, born in Stornoway but moved to the US when she was about 17 and is a regular visitor to our shores. Donald himself has made no secret of the fact the he loves Scotland and does not want to see our dear beloved country destroy it's self by insisting on these unsightly wind turbines as he puts it.
What the "Hell" does Donald Trump know about Scotland, other than Burns night, St Andrews Day etc. He does not live here, nor does he ever intend to. He knows nothing of the people, the real people that work and live here. He will of course make his visits, waltz around in his kilt, spouting how much he thinks he knows about Scotland and how great it is and how much he loves Scotland and then he will leave.
He does however make a couple of good points in regards to the wind turbines, which we do need to take into consideration. Wind turbines have been the cause of accusations that they have caused the death of several birds, from flying into the rotors, and it is important to consider this, as no one would want to cause unnecessary suffering to any animal as a direct result of a wind turbine.
Donald also make claims that the turbines need to be replaced every 5 years. If this was the case then wind turbines would surely not be financially viable. This thankfully is not the case, wind turbines will last in the region of 20-25 years, of course during this time parts will need to be replaced or repaired.
Lets take a look at Donald's other claim. He states that Scotland's tourist industry will not be affected because there will not be any tourists, as no tourist would want to come to a country which was surrounded by wind turbines thus imprisoning it's citizens.
Of course tourists will still want to come to Scotland, just as they have done for decades. There is much, much more to Scotland than just great scenery, and stunning coastlines. We have a plethora of other sights for tourists to see, such as Edinburgh Castle and a heritage that goes back thousands of years, unlike the "Modern" USA, which is not even 500 years old, and was largely populated by ex-pats from other countries, Scotland, Ireland and Italy to name but a few.
He states that he has authorised a large sum of money to be used by his staff at the golf course to fight the installation of the wind turbines. He also states that 90+% of the people in the area surrounding his golf course are against these wind turbines, however this is contrary to a report by Scottish TV, which states that only 14 letters of objection have been received by the local council. There may well be more people who are unhappy at the project, however you have to ask that, if as many people as Mr Trump says there are, then surely more letters of objection would have been received.
Local counsellors in the area, are for the wind turbines, as reported by Scottish TV, Aberdeenshire Council's infrastructure services committee have said, "Marine Scotland will make the final decision on this, and we were simply asked to contribute just like Sepa, Scottish National Heritage and other interested bodies so that all of the issues can be considered before a final decision is made"
Lets be honest now, Donald Trump is only interested in one thing, and that's making money, and he is certainly only interested in one person, and that person is Donald Trump.
Mr Trump is arrogant, and severely naive if he thinks that his dummy spitting, will have any impact on whether the wind turbines gets the go ahead. The only considerations are, environmental, financial, and how much long term benefit they will bring to Scotland, certainly not what an egotistical megalomaniac like Donald Trump thinks.
