East And West

The Eastern and Western culture display a significant difference as people with a lifestyle that is sort of Allen to each other. The elements like their state of mind, social structure, food, dress, attitudes of Individual and groups, language and speech, tangible and non-tangible aspect include many other character differences.

Take the subject of Religion, which are mainly Christianity of the West and Islam in the East, they are the two largest religious groups and there was a time when both lived peacefully like true friends and neighbors, but today they both behave like they are full blooded enemies. Why is there conflict and struggle going on between these two? Possible different culture and beliefs clash.

Today, people in the West have an issue with those in the East and vice versa. The country, Russia is under economic sanction imposed by the West for the recent invasion of Ukraine, the sanction is viewed as, a bitter medicine for the Russian people to swallow, but they seem to be a very resilient set of people and the economic sanction is like they were just bitten by a small mosquito or it is just a small price to pay for the loss of prosperity and it is just a part of the cost of imperial and military objectives. The state of mind of these people is so different.

We are supposed to take care of our elders when they are old and the practice of those in the West is to put their elders in the care of a Nursing Homes. The West, views are that their elders need to enjoy themselves in the company of their age group. Nursing Homes are becoming incredibly overcrowded, and thus viewed as selfish or uncaring, to those in the East, because many household families will consist of a grandma, a grandpa or both. There is a difference between the action and state of mind of both.

What is the true definition of success? In the East, success is defined as the terms of attaining harmony and enlightenment or approaching the attainment of the truth about life. While success in the West is driven by Gross Domestic Product and the advancement of civilization. It seems that both use a different side of their brains due to different mental concepts and thoughts.

With the subject of time it is a relative opposite story, the West is so obsessed with time and it is money nor can they bear to be left idle because the past is over and the present need to be seized. They are a profit oriented people and time is very precious and scarce in their opinion. While in the East they are not so interested in the schedule or punctuality and they consider the present reality to be more important than appointments. The passing of time is ignored and the completing of a human transaction is the best investment of their time, thus the manners in which time should be spent is relatively different between both.

Take, for example, a native of New York City decides to move to the East to a country, where it is okay to have five wives and he only came with one. Why should he condemn the practice wrong and he’s right? Remember different custom, laws, religion and more. The main thing to do is to respect their customs and try to understand their differences. The New Yorker, can enjoy his wife and his own belief or just add four more wives to his collection if he chooses.

People in the Eastern and Western Civilization are all one people and we are the Children of the father above even though we are different in many ways, we are still brothers and sisters no matter what our differences. Whatever happened in the past is history and will not be coming back, but the future is standing before us and it is where we will all be heading. Consider the complacency that can naturally follow when we understand the significance of unity, peace, love, understanding, caring, and respect for each other.

My dear brothers and sisters, I wish you all prosperity and success. Cheers!

When you come face to face with love, and before the sun sets, you become someone you didn't use to be. It makes the old things new. Makes dead things live. Love makes you into something better.”

― Jonathan Hickman, East of West, Vol. 1: The Promise
