Something Antisocial; Whats Behind The Blaming Game?

What point is there in being materially wealthy when it is not accompanied by any sense of actually belonging to and being a contributor to the common good; the social circle? This is a question applicable to everyone capable of understanding it, either immediately or following explanation. Each of us falling into this category requires reflecting upon the true foundation of our wealth or lack of it. We require looking at the way it was accumulated, who was involved, in what way, and under what circumstances. Utilising the answers, and hopefully facts, we elicit from these questions, we are likely to conclude, if honest with ourselves, that for some of us there seems to be a sense that the secondary good is the common good; the social circle, whilst the primary good is the private welfare, or in other words, goodness based on self at centre.

My point of view, even if not always perfectly executed in my daily living, is that to place private welfare before common welfare is to ensure all welfare is endangered. Of course there are other viewpoints, including the reverse of this perception. That is; that to not place private welfare before common welfare is to ensure all welfare is endangered.

I doubt if either of these viewpoints is particularly useful. They are merely standpoints from which to throw rocks. In all probability the more useful standpoint is the gathering place of united purpose, driven by common concern; that is the common concern that we are all ‘in this together’. Well, we are the moment. Who knows if any of us will leave for new worlds in times to come?

As is often the case, it is the original question that can cause all the problems. Perhaps it ought not to be; what point is there is being materially wealthy when it is not accompanied by any sense of actually belonging to and being a contributor to the common good; the social circle? - Perhaps it ought to be; if it is accompanied by an actual belonging to and contributing to the the social circle; is it not the point that being materially wealthy is further enhanced? Or in other words; is it better to be rich and a contributing part of society or rich and apart from society?

We can also mirror this by asking the question is it better to be poor and a contributing part of society or poor and apart from society?  Something tells me that the rich and poor alike are united in one area at least; the excuse of using wealth or poverty to be anti-social. If anything, the existence of wealth and poverty are the very reason to be social. We might ask how we can be more social, however the more penetrating question is why are we being anti-social?

The answer/s to this question might bring us into the folds of truth; one of which might be that many of us blame society for our predicament, when it might be the case that society can legitimately blame us for its predicament. If we have capacity to contribute, even if by the avoidance of being anti-social, but do not, then blaming suggests someone is trying to take advantage; of society, the individual or both. If this is true, then who do we trust; for those taking advantage can never really care for us; merely exploit us.

Exploitation is a close bedfellow of the blaming process. The pointing finger is often the diversion-sign, guiding us around the place we belong and leaving us lost. If we want to avoid being lost as individuals and as society, I suggest we refrain from this finger-pointing business; it smacks of diversionary intent which suggests exploitation on some level. And finger-pointing is not a symptom of wealth or poverty, so we need to look beyond these and peek to see what’s really going on. Something anti-social I bet.
