A former member of Sarah Palin’s staff and reportedly a close member of the inner circle is about to release a tell all book that has been called, by all accounts, controversial and scathing at best. That book, culled from a huge number of emails that were sent to and from the former governor could get its author, Frank Bailey into some serious trouble.
In the book, titled, “ Blind Allegiance to Sarah Palin: A Memoir of Our Tumultuous Years” , Bailey, who worked with Palin both before she became Governor of Alaska and afterward, has claimed many things, some of them fairly old news by now. What he is saying may not be new or surprising or even all that wrong, for that matter, but how he got his reference material might be. In fact, even though the book has not been released yet, there is already an investigation by the Alaska Attorney General’s office to see if Bailey has violated any laws at all by using the emails in the book.
Palin and supporters are decrying the book and have said that some of the emails are taken out of context or are used out of the correct time frame to paint a different picture of Palin. Other emails are being portrayed as being sent directly to or from Bailey to Palin or vice versa when that might not be the case.
The probe into the emails was launched when news about the book first came to light, led by a request by one of Palin’s most vocal critics in the state of Alaska. The emails, many of which were sent from a private email account to staffers as well as all other documents were taken to the AG’s office by Bailey himself for approval before being sent to the publisher. The probe is still considered ongoing, however.
In the book, Bailey charges that Palin spent more time worrying about anything that would gain her fame or fortune, rather than pressing, political affairs and that she often blew off engagements and commitments, often at the last minute. According to Bailey, Palin went through certain staff members quite frequently, employing as many as ten schedulers, each only lasting for a short period of time before quitting.
Palin is, of course, no stranger to attention or to the publishing world, for that matter. Her first book, “Going Rogue” became the second fastest selling book in the political genre, selling 2.2 million hard back copies. But, her second book, “America By Heart” did not sell nearly as well and public interest in her seems to have run its course.
For now, the book will be released as scheduled and the initial response seems to be one of baited curiosity rather than intense interest in either direction. Most of the claims made by Bailey are public knowledge or have been largely rumored anyway, so the only real mystery left will be how many people actually buy it.
