Let's face it, nobody likes to be around a negative person.
These 5 tips on staying positive will give you the opportunity to remain positive even when it seems like all hell is breaking loose.
Negative people can change the mood of even the most positive person after awhile so let's put these tips into motion and get you to be that person everyone wants to be around.
Tip 1: Replace the negative thought with a positive thought
In all honesty, everything starts in the mind. You get a thought, you think on it, sometimes you act on it or you allow it to fester like a boil until it explodes. When negative thoughts try to bombard your mind replace them with a positive thought.
For example: You're on your 5th job interview and while sitting there a thought pops in your head, "You've been on 4 other job interviews and have not gotten a call back, what makes you think you'll get this job? You know they aren't going to hire you here either. Just give it up!"
Replace that thought with, "I might have been on 4 interviews already but this might just be the one and if not then something better must be waiting for me around the corner. I've had 3 other jobs that I'm so thankful for and I will have another job very soon. So, no matter the outcome of this job interview I will continue to press on until I get the perfect job!"
You will be amazed at how fast that negative thought will leave when you replace it with something positive.
Tip 2: Listen to uplifting songs
Scientific studies have shown that music really can help us to concentrate as well as change our mood.
Have you ever noticed that when you listen to music your whole attitude can change? Music has the ability to stir up our emotions and to move us in a way nothing else can.
According to a 2011 Canadian study, published in Nature Neuroscience, whatever your favorite type of music is, plugging in to that music could help melt away a bad mood.
So let's say you've just gotten some bad news and you can feel the negativity creeping in around you, put on your favorite music and watch as your negative attitude melts away and is replaced with a positive attitude.
Tip 3: Escape to a "secret" place that brings you happiness
Sometimes we just need a break from the same ol' same ol'. I work from home, behind a computer all day long and sometimes I feel like I'm cut off from the outside world. Interacting with others during the day is done virtually and since I am a people person and love to socialize, this can sometimes bring me down. When I feel my positive mood changing I get out of the house and go to one of my favorite places that brings me much happiness, the water. I've always lived near water and it seems to calm me down, gives me clarity and a fresh outlook on life and business. Since I live in Florida I'm surrounded by water so I can choose from either the natural springs or the beach.
No matter where your "secret" place is, visit it as much as you need to in order to keep a positive outlook on life.
Tip 4: Volunteer or just Help Someone
Whenever we focus on helping others, our own problems either work themselves out or just don't seem so big anymore.
You know the feeling you get when you give someone money that doesn't have it and they thank you profusely? Or that feeling you get helping a neighbor out with something that was small to you but so big to them? It shows others that there are still good people in this world and puts a little skip in your step knowing you are one of the good guys/gals.
Of course you always reap what you sow, so why not reap something positive into someone else's life so it will come back to you!
Tip 5: Read uplifting quotes, poems or stories
I don't know about you but whenever I read something uplifting it always gives me a positive mind set and brings hope back into my life. I would have to say my favorite poem of all time that always seems to give me hope is the Footprints in the Sand poem.
This poem has gotten me through some of the darkest times in my life. It's had such an impact on my life that I can't even count how many pieces of wall art and things I have with that poem on it. Heck I even have a shot glass from one of my beach vacations and I don't even drink.
Find those stories, poems and quotes that you know have always brought you a positive outlook and read them over and over again. When they have sunk in, I promise the negativity won't have a chance to stay.
There are plenty of other things you can do to stay positive but these 5 have been my go to tips for years now. My hope and prayer is that whatever life throws at you, you realize that it doesn't have to define you and you can rise above it with a positive attitude.
Be Blessed!
Thank you so much Kymee! I do the exact same thing. I have my little iPhone dock in my room and when I'm getting ready in the mornings I have my praise and worship songs on. It gives me such an uplifting start to my day, then I'm heading right to my bible where I meditate on the goodness of our heavenly father, talk with him and pray then my day begins. I find on those days that are so hectic and I don't have that routine, my days just are not that great. :( Thank you so much for stopping by and reading my article. I'm trying to write more and more here at Street Articles. Be Blessed, Audrey
