“Jealous people poison their own banquet and then eat it.” Unknown
Call it what you want; jealousy, envy, the green eyed monster, whatever! But you surely have felt this powerful emotion in your life before. Jealousy is a biologically based emotion that typically refers to negative feelings of anxiety, fear and / or insecurity. It’s that little demon on your shoulder that usually fills your soul up with anger, hate and mistrust over the world around you. It can also lead you to a horrible downward spiral of low self esteem which will cause bigger problems further down in your life.
You can not ‘cure’ or ‘destroy’ it but you can learn to minimize its control over your thoughts and your life. Do not let it ruin your family and workplace relationships. You are better than that! Here are a few little pointers to think about if you feel you have a problem with jealousy:
GET A LIFE
The first and most important tip: get a LIFE! Sitting around doing nothing is usually when negative emotions start creeping in your thoughts. Engage in fun activities, focus on your goals and work towards them, get a hobby or something. Just don’t let your mind wonder on how empty your life is compared to others. By doing these things you are naturally shifting your train of thought to a more positive, happy YOU!
DON’T COMPARE YOURSELF TO OTHERS
Stop comparing yourself to that cool guy with the nice sports car and hot girlfriend. You are the creator of YOU. You should be focusing on how you can make your life more enjoyable instead of analyzing your shortcomings compared to other people. Comparing yourself to others is a lost battle. You cannot WIN! Okay think about it this way: You just bought a nice gadget and you are thrilled about it, Great! After a while you notice that your friend just got a cooler gadget than yours and suddenly it seems like what you bought yourself is worth nothing! So again, do not compare yourself to others, it’s a one way ticket to a green hell!
BE GRATEFUL
Be grateful for what you have now, you worked hard for what you have and you deserve it! Somebody is struggling to have half of your things. Make it a point to mark down the great things in your life that you are grateful for, and give thanks all the time. By expressing gratitude you are unknowingly opening yourself up to much more wonderful blessings in your life!
Still with me? Okay let’s carry on....
ASK YOURSELF IF IT’S WORTH IT
You may feel envious of something right now but ask yourself if it’s really worth your time and energy. Are you sure this thing that’s bothering you will have the same effect in your life in six months, one year, five years? Analyzing what truly matters to you will put you in high gear on where you want to be headed in life! Forget all that negative BS!
Last but not least:
YOU HAVE A GREAT POWER TO CREATE YOUR LIFE
You may not know this but you have a great powerful force that you can use to change the course of your life! You can make your life as wonderful as the next person! Develop an abundance mentality! If you did not get your dream job or the girl you wanted, don’t over analyze things! it will just leave you loathing the world you live in. Your life is full of other great opportunities! Do not focus on the scarcity of things, instead picture yourself with abundance in all the good things in life. Focus on your goals instead of crying about your ‘lost’ chances. It will be hard I know but keeping a positive mindset will get you where you want to go with much higher spirits!
While everyone experiences jealousy from time to time, letting it control your everyday life is a huge problem! Not only is it unpleasant for you and others around you but it will also put you off focus in life and lead you to think the simplest of things are the worst case scenarios.
No one likes to have everything that happens turn into a negative event because of a ‘wrong’ mindset. If you think you are too jealous you should really give these few pointers a try. I believe that keeping a positive attitude will take you a long way when dealing with jealousy.
Please share your thoughts about the subject and add your suggestions, I would be happy to hear your opinions.

Well said! I love the 'Get A Life" section. My mom always told me "An idle mind is the devils workshop!" You hit the mail on the head :)
That is such a great expression and so true as well! Thanks for your comment, glad you enjoyed the article :)
That's the most important point of the article :) Thanks for your comment
Thanks... at 4am. Nice way to start my review of yesterday :-)
Hi Judith, thanks for your comment, it's great to connect with you as well =)
Great article, my aim, to have people jealous of me. This is something I do not suffer from, anyone better off than me I wish well they must have worked for it so they deserve it.
That's the right attitude! More people should think like you; jealousy is totally unproductive and blocks the way forward
