Patience. What can we get from it? Do we really need it? People would want to get everything, and they want it now! There are persons who had a very short span dealing with their patience, but I do appreciate those who maintained there composure and are very, very patient. It is really a virtue. What can we learn from it? will it benefit us if we develop that virtue?
Let's take a look at a farmer, learn from him, this may give us new insight with the way we deal with our patience.
His name is Ben, and he is a farmer. Before the sun rises, he is already awake. Prepares all his tools and make sure everything is in his hands. Planting seed is all in his heart, harvesting one day is what motivates him to start. Prepared and determined, he goes to his field. Never discouraged with that dry and hard ground. He Just go out and till the ground. He is not discouraged to go back and forth even if this is a large farm. He takes a rest for a little while, talk to his peers gladly and goes back for another round.
After the sun sets, he is already on his way back home. Tired and exhausted, he sleeps to regain strength for the next day's work. After a fair amount of time spent tilling the ground, he gets ready for the next action plan
After several times tilling the ground, he now prepares for the water to flow all over the ground. A time to make the ground rich with fertilizer. Another stage of preparation before he can sow the seeds. There are really no shortcuts, all he need is his hard work and patience. He makes sure he does the right thing each step of the way.
After laying the ground work, he now sow the seeds. Wait after sometime, until the seeds sprout. Day and night he is watching his crops grow. He wards off the insects, and protects his crops until harvest time comes. Again he had to wait.Until finally, he can harvest the field. The joy and success will be in that long-awaited time. The farmer never thought that harvest time comes overnight. It would take him months of waiting. While waiting, he lays all the hard work because one day he believes that he will reap the fruit of his labor.
Would Ben get the harvest if he stops in the middle of the process? no! He has to do it, anyway, step by step, time after time, season upon season. What made him continue? He had that vision. A vision that one day, his crops would grow. That whatever he sows, he will reap. Benefitting not only himself but the people within his community.
In what areas in our life we need to develop our patience? This is really a virtue, a test of character. That one can develop in dealing with a long and repeated task. You can work and complain, it is a choice actually. But does it make difference if we work and patiently wait? Let's learn this lesson from a farmer.
This is so well done. I felt as though I walked along with Ben, sewing and reaping. It did seem to be all about preparation, something I never paid that much attention to. Now I will never be able to work without remembering what you told me about harvesting the results of my internet preparations. Thank you so much. And thank you for the follow.
Thanks Lilian for your good comment. What we are doing here is somewhat similar to farming, where we are sowing, the result may not be seen overnight but in the long run i believe will give a longer and lasting result...pleased to meet you at street articles...ill be following your articles too!
My father-in-law is a farmer. It's rare and a honor to know a man that does exactly what you wrote about. In his case, the vision is to provide for his family. With a vision like that, it's hard to quit in the middle of the process.
