4 Foods that Can Increase your Fertility

Nutrition can play an important part in your chances of having a child. The foods you eat supply your body with the required vitamins and minerals to keep it functioning properly. Therefore, it’s important that you monitor your food intake so you can be sure that you are fueling your body with the right nutrients. The following are a list of four foods that you should incorporate into your diet to help increase your fertility.

Beans

It’s important to get the daily recommended amount of protein within your diet. However, studies have shown that plant based proteins may be more helpful that those coming from lean meats such as beef and chicken. It is recommended that women trying to improve fertility consume about 75 grams of protein per day, and well over half of that should be from plant resources. Beans are a great way to met the suggestions, plus it provides an ample amount of iron, another mineral that can boost fertility.

Spinach

Another food you should consider including in your diet if you want to increase your fertility is spinach. A one half cup serving gives you 20 percent of the recommended amount of iron for the day. Also, spinach contains a great deal of folic acid, which is important to a woman to increase the moment she decides to try conceiving a baby. Folic acid can promote a positive fertility as well as help prevent certain birth defects and complications. Folic acid should also be taken by the male partner in order to increase the quality of his sperm.

Whole Grains

It is important to incorporate whole grains in your diet so that you can eat them rather than the simple carbs that are provided with white bread or white rice. The simple type can cause your fertility to decrease due to the changes and irregularities in hormone levels that it can cause. It’s better to eat lasting foods that are made from grains, such as whole wheat bread. They have a smaller effect on insulin levels so you will be feeling full longer, reducing the amount of food and therefore helping you watch your weight while trying to get pregnant.

Pumpkin Seeds

The seeds from a pumpkin are a good source of zinc, a necessary mineral for proper reproductive system functioning. Studies have shown that zinc can help regulate ovulation, making it easier for a woman to become pregnant. It can also help the male in the relationship to eat pumpkin seeds, as zinc can help increase sperm quality and mobility. It should be noted that too much zinc can have a negative effect on fertility, so be sure only to consume the recommended 12 mg (women) or 15 mg (men) each day.

The above four foods are just a few that can be consumed to increase your fertility. It’s important that you create a well balanced diet for yourself and your partner to ensure the proper nutrients are consumed. Adding a pre-natal vitamin to your daily routine can also help you get the vitamins and minerals you need to conceive a baby.
