Anemia During Pregnancy? Are You Weak And Tired?

We all know it, you are pregnant. But you are also always tired, looking pale, have no concentrations and you are listless and always irritable. Chances are you probably are anemic.

This only means that you probably do not have enough red or oxygen carrying cells in your blood. Generally all pregnant women are a bit anemic during the first few months of pregnancy. This is not really serious, it is caused by the rapidly increase of blood flow that needs to meet the demands of your growing baby. Did you know that by the end of month six your blood volume would have increased by at least 50%.

When the blood volume is increased, it might be diluted and be a bit short of red blood cells. This natural pregnancy anemia can be quickly corrected by a combination of factors. You can add iron to your diet. This adds new red blood cells to your bone marrow, and the hormones from your thyroid improve your appetite and help with the absorption of necessary nutrients from your healthy diet.

The good news is that not menstruating helps to build up your iron reserves, and this reserves anemia. But you can also take some iron tables or folic acid to help.

What exactly is anemia? It is caused by a lack of iron. There are other factors that can be blamed, ongoing bleeding or gastric ulcer or hemorrhoids. There are also the case of malaria, that destroys red blood cells which can cause early miscarriage in childbearing women.

There are cases where anemia may cause women of childbearing age to have difficulty to conceive, or can cause them to have multiple miscarriages.

How can you deal with anemia? It can be diagnosed by symptoms or a blood test. Pregnant women who suffer from ongoing anemia may be susceptible to urinary tract infections. If you are one of the women who are pregnant and suffer from frequent miscarriages, you may be unaware of an underlying anemia problem that probably has no identifiable symptoms. If some investigation is done into the case it may reveal an inherited or a congenital anemia. This may mean that you and your partner may need to go for genetic counseling.

There are safe medications you can use to avoid anemia while you are pregnant.

The first thing you can do it so combat anemia while you are pregnant is with iron. You can also take one teaspoon of blackstrap molasses and make sure your diet contains lots of red meat and lots of fresh green vegetables. You also need to take medication that stimulates the production of new red blood cells.

Every day holds the possibility of a miracle.
