It is possible to get pregnant and carry a healthy pregnancy if you don't do all of these but a pregnant woman is also responsible for the little life growing inside of her and while things can happen that are out of her control, these are things that she can do to try and make a pregnancy as successful as possible.
Watch what you eat. Obviously, junk food really tastes good, but it is not the healthiest for you, especially when trying to conceive. Make sure you are getting plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains and protein. Some food are even considered dangerous for the baby and the sooner you stop eating them, the less risk you carry on passing toxins or bacteria onto your fetus if and when you do get pregnant. These foods include fish high in mercury, soft unpasteurized cheeses and sushi or other undercooked meats.
Make sure you are in shape. It takes an incredible amount of work on your body to be pregnant. The more in shape you are, the easier it will be for you to become and be pregnant. The more out of shape you are, the more back pain and other complications can occur. If you are out of shape now and desperately wanting to become pregnant anyway, make sure you start some kind of exercise routine, even walking is a great way to get in shape and is safe to continue during most pregnancies. Always be careful not to push yourself too hard though and make sure you discuss physical activity with your physician.
No alcohol, drugs, or smoking. Illegal, prescription and over-the-counter medications all have a potential to harm your baby. Discuss what you are taking with your physician to make sure it is safe during pregnancy. Stop smoking and alcohol now to ensure your child is not affected by the harmful chemicals these things put into our body. A little for us is a lot for a tiny little baby. Folic acid is very important. Doctors recommend and prescribe folic acid even before becoming pregnant. Folic acid is so important that you should start taking it a month or more before getting pregnant. It helps prevent neural tube defects and disorders such as spina bifida. You can get prenatal vitamins over-the-counter if you are hesitant to see a physician before you get pregnant(although seeing a physician is recommended).
By following this advice, you will be doing your best to increase your chances of getting pregnant and maintaining a healthy pregnancy. You will also feel better while you are pregnant. Good luck and make sure to enjoy trying as it will make things even easier!
