Pregnancy And Medical Conditions Part 1 – Right Start

You can manage a chronic medical condition together with being pregnant. It is a careful balancing act, with special diets, lots of exercise, monitoring and medications. With all this going on in your life, and you add pregnancy to this, it becomes a lot more complicated.

However, you can enjoy a healthy well managed pregnancy, and give birth to big, beautiful, healthy babies even though you may be suffering from a chronic medical condition. There are many women these days that fall pregnant even though they have an underlying medical problem. The reason for this is mostly because many women start their families when they are older when medical conditions are more prevalent. That is not the only reason, but in today’s medical world we have better diagnosis and treatments for any underlying medical problems which helps you to safely embark on your journey.

You have to start it right, start at the very beginning. Start before you fall pregnant. Before you are pregnant you can ask questions about your particular chronic medical condition, and also ask and do so research about how your pregnancy will be affected. What changes you need to make in your life. Find out about all your medications, and if you need to substitute your medications for safer alternatives, of if you need to have special tests done before you are pregnant.

Your pregnancy care can be divided into the following main categories, pre-pregnancy care, antenatal care, during pregnancy care, intrapartum care, then during labor and delivery care, and then postpartum care after delivery. If you have a chronic medical condition pre-pregnancy care for you is critical. You entire pregnancy should also be managed by a team; this team should include your gynecologist and your specialist who cares for your particular chronic medical condition.

When you receive the appropriate care before, during and after pregnancy, this would be a very happy rewarding time for you.

There are a few of these chronic medical conditions that are rather common. However there is a lot that is also not so common, but the ones I will be talking about in the next five articles are depression, asthma, diabetes, epilepsy, and multiple sclerosis. If you know about any specific chronic medical conditions that you would wish me to research and give information on while you are pregnant, please feel free to let me know and I will be glad to do the research and give you all the best information and help you need.

Every single day holds the promise of a miracle.
