Pregnancy: The Second Trimester
Join 1000's of Authors at StreetArticles Today!

The first trimester is OVER! Time to celebrate! Your nausea and vomiting should begin to subside now. Your fatigue should also slow down. You will still have it, but it won’t be as bad. The first trimester was hard. It is now time to enjoy your pregnancy.

The first trimester ends around week 12 or 13. The second trimester begins at week 14 and continues until week 28. Most women enjoy the second trimester more than the first and third. The hormone levels begin to stabilize and you are able to handle your new changes. If your pregnancy was a secret, it is now time to start telling people, which can be very exciting! You will also begin to show at the beginning of the second trimester, so be prepared for a lot of extra attention.

Now is the time to look at prenatal workouts. You need to stay healthy. So eat right and get moving! Be sure to do very moderate workouts and take frequent breaks. Try not to stand for long periods of time. Get your rest!

Between weeks 16 and 22, you should start to feel some baby movement! It will only get stronger and more frequent as time goes on. That is very exciting, not only for you, but also for your partner and for your friends and family. Another very exciting element of the second trimester is, you can find out the sex of the baby if you so choose. The sex can be determined usually between weeks 18 and 26.

Your breasts will grow larger, your belly will grow larger, and you may be noticing stretch marks during the second trimester. Coco butter can be a wonderful investment at this time (or even earlier).

Look out for Braxton Hicks contractions during the second trimester. These are slight contractions during pregnancy. Some women feel them and some don’t. If you are going to feel them, then chances are, the second trimester will be when you start. They are not harmful. It’s your body’s way of preparing itself for labor. You just need to be aware of them and not panic. Call your doctor if you are worried, or if you are experiencing them more than 5 times per hour.

The second trimester is probably the most comfortable you are going to be during your pregnancy, so take advantage of that. Travel a little. Get out and do something. Be intimate with your partner more often. Have some fun! Now may be a good time to start buying some things for the little one and probably some new clothes for mommy. You are getting closer to the final trimester of your pregnancy—keep reading and learning! Health and happiness to you!
