You have many things to think about and to consider while you are pregnant. One of these many things to think about is traveling during the different trimesters. You might already have made holiday plans before you fell pregnant and now you don’t know what to do. Should you stay or should you go?
Holiday is not the only reason why you need to travel, there may be your career or your studies that requires you to travel as well.
Your decision on whether or not to travel during the third trimester depends greatly on the distance, the destination, the type of traveling and most important of all whether there is medical care available in case there might be an emergency. For example, if you have a trip planned in the middle of a malaria area, then you should probably forget about it. And on the other side is would not be a problem if you are over 30 weeks pregnant and are planning a short flight of about two hours you would be fine.
You should rule out international travel during the third trimester. In case it is unavoidable, and your doctor and the airline has given their approval you should be fine. If you have a medical condition like diabetes, high blood pressure or some complications you should take flying as a big no-no. This counts for any time during your pregnancy.
If it is possible for you to rather avoid travel completely during your last trimester, cut your losses and just focus on your baby’s health and safety as well as your health and rest. Always remember one thing, low risk does not necessarily mean any risk. There are many circumstance you have to take into consideration, and it is always better to rather be safe than to be sorry.
Driving long distances during pregnancy is also difficult. You should have regular stops to stretch and empty your bladder. Take a short walk around to get all muscles and joints to more a bit. It is always a good idea to have a few cool bottles of water at hand to take regular sips.
Have some nibbles of fresh fruit and vegetables ready to you to snack on. Then avoid prolonged exposure to the sun by covering the window with a blanket or a sun shade. And also get yourself some preggy lollies to prevent nausea. And remember your heart burn tablets especially if you have needed it before.
Always be assured to wear comfortable loose fitting clothes while you are traveling. Especially round your tummy. And also always wear comfortable shoes. Then also make sure your cell is fully charged and has all the important emergency numbers on speed dial. Then try to only travel when it is cool, like in the early morning or the late afternoon.
Last but not least do make sure to take care of your driver. This is to ensure that you reach your destination safely and without hassles. And another thing before I forget, always wear your seat belt, even if your bump is big fit it under your bump.
Every single day holds the promise of a miracle.
