Believe this or not, I personally am one of the few lucky women who did no gain one little bit of weight during my entire pregnancy. During my whole 9 months of pregnancy, I lost about 8kg of weight. Both baby and I was healthy, full of energy with no medical conditions whatsoever. I was lucky, or was I? I do not think so.
It all started when we found out I was pregnant. We struggled for two years, and finally the two stripes were right there on the home pregnancy test. We were ecstatic.
I started reading up on pregnancy and all the changes my body would be going through during the next nine months. I soon realized that the one thing I was not looking for was the weight gain that goes hand in hand with being pregnant. This is the one thing I did not want at all. I started reading up on pregnancy health, nutrition and what baby and I would need during the next few months.
I have been overweight for a long time, and I was scared and horrified to gain weight. I made a conscious decision not to gain any weight at all. I did not know whether it would be possible, but I was sure going to try my best.
This is what I did, and I must say that it worked like a bomb. I have a husband, friends, family and a wonderful doctor that will all testify of what happened next. The first thing I did was get my prenatal vitamins. These are great for you and for baby. These fulfill all the extra needs the body may have during pregnancy, and I found that I did not experience any cravings at all. I religiously took my vitamins every morning.
Secondly I worked out a healthy eating plan for me and baby. I did a lot of reading on food for pregnancy. I stocked up on lots of fruit, vegetables and fiber rich foods and limited my bread, meat and fat intake to the bare minimal. I also excluded all processed foods from my entire diet.
Then I divided my meals for the entire day into 8 portions. These portions I made approximately the same size of my hand's palm. During the day I would eat one portion every hour of the day. Then I would also rotate the portions, let me explain. The first portion of the day would be packed with fiber; the second would be a fruit, then another portion of breakfast, then a raw vegetable, then next the first portion of lunch and then a fruit and so forth. The breakfast was divided into two portions, the lunch into three and the supper into 3 as well. The rest of the portions in between these were made up of raw vegetables and fresh fruit.
I must admit, it was all a lot of work, but at the end of the day after my little treasure was born, I weighed 8kg less than before my pregnancy. This was wonderful, I felt so good. My doctor kept a close eye on me and my baby the whole time and we were healthy and during the entire pregnancy I felt wonderful.
There were some other advantages to this type of eating as well. I had some morning sickness for the first week while I was still working on my research and pregnancy eating plan, within two days after I started with this way of eating the morning sickness was gone for good. I also did not experience one day of being bloated or feeling like a bus. I felt good all the time, it was well worth it in the end. Try it, it is well worth it.
Every single day holds the promise of a miracle.
