Money is hard to come by this days. Many companies are doing as much as they can to keep up with taxes, expenses and salaries. Nothing lasts forever, problems often solve themselves except for death.
I have noticed that some companies are directing their efforts to embracing new products. For example, a farmer around Washington State decided it would be a great idea to rent out fertilized chicken eggs to schools and families who want to introduce their children to farm life.
The idea got accomplished with the help of the schools around the area. From there the new business escalated to selling eggs for the sole purpose of decorating them for Easter and other occasions.
A few years ago after the terrible floods we had here in Washington State, a few businesses gave some time to other businesses to help them clean up mod water and other debris. Some of those businesses then added disaster clean up to their brand name as means of making extra money.
A house wife who runs a day care from home, also added knitting floor mats, shopping bags and other items out of grocery store plastic bags. She sells the mats for five dollars and the bags for a dollar, the mats are large enough to serve as a pillow for a big dog.
Some people near my home went back to basics all the way, they grow produce and sale those to stores and at the market. I am making crafts, like handmade birthday and wedding cards, made of regular card stock or parchment paper.
I also make diaper cakes for baby showers, blue, pink, black, white, purple and red. The colours are not my personal choice but it is what is in fashion around here due to the Vampire shows. Some other business owners are making reproductions of Vampire Killing kits.
The point is that we all have a crafty and creative side, we just need to tap on it and create a product or service to compliment business. There are several ideas floating in the air, make a list of 10 possibilities study each one and choose the one or ones that have the best chances of success.
Study the market and set a reasonable prize for your product, always keeping in mind that the rest of the world is also monetarily impair at the moment. Embrace simple and basic things as they were the ones that paved the path of civilization, don't forget where you come from and set aside valuable things, ideas and products to give back to society.
Great info and article Jesse...a lot of little things can add up to a nice business...
Desperate times calls for desperate measures, the fact that some are prepared to diversify is commendable yet in a way a shame, that as yet the world economy is not showing promise of an early turn around.
Yes it is a sad true that we have to to other things to secure moneys.... Thanks. Smiles...
