  • Look around your community for a public speaking groups and attend one of their meetings to see if it's a good fit for you, and if so sign up and become a regular. They are generally very affordable and have many experienced and knowledgeable members willing to support and champion you. In these public speaking groups you gain the opportunity to speak in a safe, supportive and nurturing environment.

Studying how professional and exceptional speakers make their points and engage with their audience gives you an understanding of what it takes to become an effective public speaker. Listen to major politicians and leaders give their own speeches, and observe how they don’t rush their words. They speak clearly with language and words that every person can understand. Stilted language and complex wording is generally avoided and instead, such speakers hit the salient points and then give their audiences time to understand the conclusions presented.
  • With Google and Yahoo and video libraries such as YouTube, you can easily find videos of famous speakers to watch and study. Focus on their body language, the words they use to evoke emotion. You will come to understand that you do not need an exceptional IQ to succeed as a public speaker, but what you do need is an I CAN attitude.
