Celtic Tree Tattoo Meaning

Today I am going to be discussing the Celtic Tree tattoo meaning and give you some insight as to what this means and hopefully help you decide whether or not this tattoo is right for you.

Like many other "art" enthusiasts, I find it very interesting on the underlying meaning of tattoo designs. It is a personal thing when getting a new tattoo and since it is lifelong, it is important to understand what your tattoo really means.

Many people that get tattoos are telling a story about their life, telling stories about their own thoughts and ideologies, and self representing themselves through their "ink" and celtic tattoos in general are some of the most popular types of tattoos, not just with those of Irish heritage or association.

Celtic Tree Tattoo Meaning & Design

The Celtic tree, or the Celtic of Tree of life tattoo is a very meaningful tattoo that consists of three basic elements. The strong roots of the tree that carry deep into the ground. Secondly, a strong trunk. Third, the tree will have long branches that reach towards the heavens. These are the main components and the design work around the actual tattoo is a personal preference.

To the Celts, trees were not just some root bearing plant. They are believed to support life itself with its roots reaching down the the underworld and the branches reaching off into heaven. The trunk was on the same plane as earth.

The Druids had believed that the tree was a conduit that allowed for gods to communicate with the human life below. Over the years the tree of life meaning has evolved into meaning "spiritual growth" or the "interconnection of all life". People that choose this tattoo design are typically doing so to represent their own personal strength and their connection with with their their internal and external spirituality.

The Celtic Tree of life tattoo is for both male and female and the most popular locations on the body for this tattoo is the upper back, lower back, shoulder, and chest. The size of the tattoo typically ends up being larger than most other tattoos because of the intricate detail involved in these tattoos, thus the larger surface areas being the most popular.

Interesting for sure, I am considering getting a Flower of Life Tattoo in the near future, which are both primarily connected to the Tree of Life, the Egg of life, the seeds of creation. The Flower of Life symbol in particular is very sacred, its in ancient cultures depicted in temple stone in the Egypt, to India, China...dating back thousands of years. The interconnecting of the circles would make it such an awesome tattoo to have, the sacred geometry is very powerful in bringing more positive vibrations to yourself. I'm Looking into getting one on my right upper forearm!

Very interesting Kyle. I've wanted at least one tatoo, but never followed through and never really decided on which one. This would be one I would consider if I ever go through with it.

I agree, I am tattoo'less but I think they look great on other people. Since writing this article I have seen a few people with Celtic tattoos already, they look really good. I think I read a stat the other day stating that over 70% of people now have tattoos and this is only going to grow, no longer a niche...it is a way of life!

Perhaps you may want to consider some Celtic Pride tattoos! The Celtic Knot is one of the more popular ones so you may want to consider looking into that one as well.

Tattoos are very personal and I have a few each with it's own story behind it. I have been looking for a new one - and I have been researching Samoan tattoos because they tell stories - now you have me thinking Celtic as well - thanks for the article
