Lets talk about Gay Marriage. But first I want to say something slightly controvercial. Lets talk about how it is that people call Obama racist but dont call Romney prejudice. And yes, this is all related to the same topic.
Here is what I am talking about. Recently there was a news story claiming that President Obama was racist because he didn't mention that one of the Beastie Boys died. What? So what, he didnt mention when your grandma died either did he? No big deal there. He doesnt have time to mention publicly about everyone in this country that dies.
After all, you do get upset when he focuses on the wrong thing and not our economy, yet you hate on him when he doesn't mention a Beastie Boys death. That makes no sense. I mean I honestly hope he has other things to focus on.
Okay, but here is the prejudice part. This part will explain the image by the way. Okay so the image that I have used for this article is a picture of a memeber of the Ku Klux Klan. Would you vote that guy in as president?
Well I honestly hope not. I am sure that a few ignorant people out there would. We all know however that he would never win. Okay so why not? Because he is a racist right?
Right. So that being said, a racist is someone that is prejudice. Prejudice means the following: any preconceived opinion or feeling, either favorable or unfavorable. Usually against a race, sexuality, religion or such.
With that being said, we do not want a prejudice person in office. Okay. But wait, isn't Romney prejudice? He recently stated to the public that his personal opinion of marriage is "between a man and a woman" and that he wants a federal law prohibiting gay marriage in the U.S.
Well there is a problem. First off, everyone has there opinion on things. That is fine. Here is my point. I do not think that we need a president that will allow his personal opinion effect his opinion of what to do for our country. Secondly, I think it should be the other way around. There should be a Federal Law permitting gay marriage everywhere.
Why? Because there is already a law that prevents any state from prohibiting bi-racial marriage. Why? Because that marriage does not affect anyone but the people getting married. The same goes for gay marriage.
Point is why would anyone in there right mind these days vote a prejudice into office.
Thanks for the insightful article. I know myself as a gay man living in Australia that it plays on my nerves when people want to impose their beliefs and practices onto the rest of society.
Thanks for your insightful comment, Kesh. That's exactly how our church is getting attacked and misunderstood! Having beliefs and practices imposed. Let me give an example, please. Friends who adopted their daughter are a family. They adopted their daughter from someone who knew that these men are a family. This child's mother applied her rights and responsibilities to choose the best parents possible for her child. This family is a family. Recognizing this family or any other need not trample on the beliefs and practices of our church. Yet the way it is being implemented, beliefs and practices are being imposed on the Catholic church. That's why it's sad for me and causing attacks on our church. blessings, Cynthia
Actually I would like to make my question a little more clear to future people who reply to this article. What I am saying is this. If you believe that gay marriage shouldnt be allowed in the U.S then you are really just saying "Believe What I Believe, Or We Will Make You Unhappy." Right? Well clearly this mindset is NOT good. Because that is actually TAKING AWAY our freedom of belief, religion, and happiness.
Okay Cynthia, I read the entire statement :) However, may I ask you a question? It appears that your standpoint is against same sex marriage? Okay, so if your standpoint IS in fact that then let me ask you how exactly would two guys or two women getting married affect your relligous beliefs? How would that harm anyone else in this country? You say that everyone has the right to their own beliefs and happiness, yet you want to refuse them the right to get married? If you dont let them get married then you are DIRECTLY and PURPOSELY not letting that person be happy? How do you consider keeping someone from being happy American Like?
Kenneth, What is marriage? What is life in the womb? I am a practicing Catholic. Religious freedom was given in the creation of the United States as a founding principle of a nation. And again, yes our church is broken. Yet we have the right to exist in the United States as we heal as church. That right to exist, to worship and to practice our beliefs is a gift given as a founding principle of a great nation. Our church hierarchy is so focused on sexuality that trust is completely broken. The fruits are overseeing the abuse of innocent life. We are healing as church as our church puts into our tradition a paying attention to the possibility of the unthinkable. Processes of taking action are being put in place globally. We are being attacked as church on so many fronts for so long that many Catholics leave and have left. I beg that the people of this great nation allow the gift of freedom of religion. Invest in separating church and state. blessings, Cynthia
I am not talking about your religion being broken where does this keep coming from. I am talking about same sex marriage. I dont know why you keep bringing up your religion, as I have no interest in religion bashing. I do however have an interest in knowing why it is people feel that same sex marriage is ruining ANYTHING. All I want to know is why they cant get married and live there life while the rest of the world lives their life. This is the true meaning of freedom. For those who use religion as basis to keep same sex marriage from happening, that is plain ignorance because the Bible itself says to judge no one and leave that to God.
Kenneth, Please read the whole statement before replying:-) I disagree. The USA is built to allow people to live their own beliefs. In this case, Marriage is an institution that combines church and state. State poured concrete legal stuff around and on top of Marriage. That legal-concrete created by the state should not be permitted to destroy the premise that in the USA there is a right to faith, belief and religious freedom. As such, changing the institution of Marriage here has significant negative impact on religious beliefs. The USA is founded on the principles that it's founded on. Clearly, attacking religious institutions is popular. Even people like me who avoid TV, newspapers and whatnot run into observations of lots of church-bashing (and not just my church). However, the popularity of attacking religion does not change the fact that those attacks are against the principles the USA was founded on -- and that attacks are unfair and wrong. That said? Seems sad we won't separate church and state. There are very different things piled together because of the action of the state (where I'm meaning local, state and federal government). Yes, it would require more than a new word! Yes, it would take effort over time and that has a financial impact. However, separating church and state differs radically from racial issues you discuss as many others do. It's not a "Logic" thing. Not everything is! Separate church and state! I am a practicing Catholic and I believe in my church. And I'm an American citizen and I believe our country should allow my church to exist. Yes, I understand you'll probably have some of the currently popular Catholic-bashing things to say. So let me say right up front that I realize that my Catholic church is broken. Yet my conclusion from inside differs from those outside. My church being broken gives all the more reason for me to HELP HEAL the Catholic church. And I believe we have the right in the USA to do so without being torn apart by laws and legal battles. I recognize that I am naive but I would like the USA to stand up for religious freedom. The fact is that rights, responsibilities and other legal stuff that were piled on by government is not a sufficient reason for the USA to be attacked from within over a battle to eliminate religious freedom in the USA. And yes, I believe that the fight that is going on has far better solutions for all citizens, permanent residents and aliens than what is going on. In fact, I believe the Executive Office stance right now justifies impeachment. blessings, Cynthia
Thank you for that comment Kyle. I completely agree with your statement regarding a "Logic" standpoint. I believe that too many people are letting their beliefs take control. My main point, as I believe I stated, is that gay marriage is hurting no one any more that by racial marriage is.
The argument is that a child needs a mother and father to be raised properly. The need the father figure and they need their mother figure. Here is the problem though. There are still a lot of BAD people in the world. There are bad Mom's and bad Dad's. Should we not have a parental review based on the type of person they are instead of using gender as a qualifier. And most male/female unions end in a divorce...is this good for a child? I honestly think there is very little argument for these points and that if anyone were to think this through from a "LOGIC' standpoint instead of a belief standpoint it would make a lot more sense. Great read!
