Illegal Immigration: Jan Brewer Vs President Obama

Illegal immigration is an issue that has the nation split in half! Supporters say things like "This is the melting pot, so let's greet them with open arms." While others say, "Let's build a fence to keep the neighboring 'visitors' in their own country."

The debate rages on as President Obama grants two-year work permits for many young illegals. (Notice I am calling them 'illegals' and not 'undocumented') I don't like to sugar coat it. The truth of the matter is that they are illegal immigrants in our country.

The timing of the Presidents illegal asylum is impeccable! With the election only a few months away, one has to think this is a political move to help increase the number of almighty votes. And why only two years? Why not grant them permanent residence? Oh so many questions with so few answers!

Enter stage right, the Governor of Arizona, Jan Brewer, who released an executive order. Not just any executive order, mind you. She will deny any such documentation for these young illegals including driver's licenses and will not extend any 'public benefits'.

The political wars rage on between the Arizona Governor and the President of the United States. Jan Brewer is a staunch right leaning Republican, and does not see any benefit in letting millions of illegals have the same rights and privileges we as U.S. citizens enjoy.

President Obama is known for his left leaning tactics and has shown us that he is willing to give illegals a reprieve for two years. What happens after two years is anyone's guess. Do we then offer them complete and full citizenship here in this country?

As I flip this coin over and over I can't help but reflect back over my experiences with illegal immigrants I call friends. One in particular really stands out. His name is Ismael Rodriquez from Mexico. He was a veterinarian from Mexico and was here to make a better life for himself and his family. He excelled at doctoring cattle and was one of the best workers I have ever had the privilege of laboring beside.

He lived on 50% of his income and sent the other half back to his home country. In three short years he had saved enough to buy a small country store in his home town. He now is a successful veterinarian and his wife runs that small country store in their home town!

This little success story has me wondering why Obama's asylum plan couldn't include a provision for those hard workers to live on 50% and save 50%, so that at the end of two years they could go back to their home country. The wealth they acquired here could set them up nicely in their own home town.

Just an ole cowboy sitting on the fence, pondering, musing, and writing.

Doesn't that fence post get a bit hard on the posterior? Hmm? :P Ask the Indians what happens when you do not control immigration. :)

Is there ever a simple sollution to these type of problems, in Canada imigration is always a ongoing problem as out jail fill up with the people we are letting in to our country...I think a common problem in many places with no real soltuion or at least a popular one...when talking politics expeacially at elections time it need to be popular not right....:).....different country same bull...thanks McK...

Different bull is right! Didn't even get to the jail and prison issue! Great point. It is a tough issue to deal with. The emotions are high on both sides. I have many ties to illegals in this country. I learned Spanish so I could more be a more effective manager. Maybe someday we will have that someone stand up with a real solution, no matter how popular and begin to make a difference. Not sure who has the juevos to do it, though! LOL Thanks, Tim for more great insights.

Every year we have migrant workers come into our community. Actually they arrive for the blueberry harvest this time of year and then again during wreath season, right before Christmas. Of course the employers do everything in their power to make sure that everyone has proper papers to work. Their arrival always brings with it the debate that these people are here illegally, not paying taxes, are receiving free medical etc. The people making the loudest noise will carry on and on about the jobs which the immigrants are taking from our very fragile community. The fact is, If immigrants did not arrive to do this work it would never get done. I have witnessed many people who choose to sit back and claim unemployment benefits or collect welfare before they would ever consider doing the work which the Migrants do willingly and well I might add. Are some of these people working here illegally? I have no doubt. Do I agree with them collecting benefits to which they are not entitled? Defiantly not. There are many sides to a complex issue and we have gone well beyond an easy answer but in my opinion for Obama's part, it is simply politics as usual.

I have seen many of the same things you have seen! Many legal citizens sitting it out to collect unemployment, while illegals do the work. Being in the agricultural industry, I have seen it all! The easy solution has passed us by 50 years ago when illegals came up from Mexico to do harvest work in the US and then left when harvest was done. Now they have children and their children's children here to be citizens. It's what I have come to call the invasion by multiplication. Not a shot required in this takeover! More thoughts and musings are needed here, this ole cowboy thinks! LOL Great insight, Jackelyn! I wonder where this will all lead us 20 or 30 years in the future....

Is it too late to get Jan Brewer on the ballot? Let's not be cruel. Let's not be unkind. Let's just uphold the law. Is that asking too much? Illegals with Section 8 housing, health insurance (Medicaid), food stamps, education and the right to vote! Really? It defies all logic, no matter what side of the fence you're on.

It's just what the Dr. ordered! Uphold the law! What a concept! Here's hoping that Obama doesn't get 4 more years out of these tactics of his! Illegals should not be allowed all these benefits! Kudos to Jan Brewer! Thanks for reading and for the great input, Dr!

Right on McK. I think we should build a fence around the whole US. Keep everyone out. Look at all the people we would put to work building fences. We could have more people employed as guards stationed every 50 feet at the fences. That ought to solve the problem.

There you go! I agree with you 100%! Then what do we do with those illegals that are already here? It's a big issue and I wonder at times what things will be like in 20 years! Thanks, Jack! I appreciate you reading and your input!

Oh...you always manage to get me started, McK! So I'll refrain for a rant and just say...I don't understand why so many people don't know the definition of the word "Illegal"!!!! No other country lets ANYONE in without going thru the legal system and many wouldn't let you work there no matter what. No offense to your friend. I know these are people we are talking about and many are just as sweet as can be...but still illegal. And the money they send home does not go back into our economy either. And of course he's just trying to pad his votes...I don't think these people are entitled to a vote anyway...Just sayin' BTW: This isn't a rant..that would go on for days!!! LOL

I hear you loud and clear, AnnMarie! I will have to write a second article letting ya'll know of my quandary. I do agree to build a fence to keep 'em at bay, but what good does that do since there are all ready millions that are here illegally? Not sure what is to be done. I just know of my personal debate that continues with this issue. It would be a cut and dried issue if I were more removed from many of my illegal friends! The answer my friend is blowin' in the wind! LOL! Just wish I knew the right way to go! Thanks for reading and for your great input, AnnMarie!

The least I think should be done is to implement the Fair Tax (.org) so everyone, legal or otherwise, pays into out tax system.

I agree with that 100%. Did you know that 53% of wage earners don't pay any tax at all? What a croc!! Straight across the board tax percentage would be welcomed in my book!

I'm with Jan Brewer. I think people should come into the country the legal way. It's become a free for all. Doesn't have anything to do with how nice or hardworking the immigrants are. We're losing control of our country. These same people could be sponsored by a citizen, and still work here legally. Our politicians are pragmatic. They don't care as long as they get the votes. A lot wrong with that picture. Illegals voting??? I'm disgusted.

Oh I am a staunch conservative, no doubt! But I have personal experiences with many illegals. In fact, I worked at one facility in which I was the only legal citizen! All other 65 employees were illegal immigrants. It is a tough situation to be in. Like I said, I flip this coin over and over, thinking and pondering what to do. I suppose my plan to have them live on 50% of their income is a pipe dream, but it beats having them stay here indefinitely over time.

Elections near and like any country there are strange promises made... vote getters that's all... but they become problems after the elections...

Yup, I think that is what most politicians do when the elections come close! Where is the integrity and honesty? I think it flies out the window, when it comes to landing votes! Thanks for reading and your input, Rob! It is much appreciated.
