Mercy For Terrorist, Not For Obama

The New York Times, October 8, 2011, reports that the President's staff needed to discuss legalities before he ordered the attack on the US-born Al-Qaeda terrorist, Anwar al-Awlaki.

That's ridiculous. Our government has always executed traitors, saboteurs, and spies--the only interesting 'news' in this article is:

"USA becomes so civilized, killing our enemies encounters legal obstacles!"

During the Viet Nam war, young men were imprisoned for failing to obey their Induction Notices. Rescinding the Draft after 1973 was an acceptable choice of civility--our Armed Forces found that sufficient numbers of young Americans were willing to volunteer (if the PR campaign was good--which it was: “Be All That You Can Be”). But if we start scrupling at the thought of killing our attackers, we put ourselves outside of global reality.

Traitors, spies and saboteurs were a real danger even back in WWII, when national boundaries and war-fronts were far less fluid than they are in the War on Terrorism we endure today. If a terrorist is born and raised on American soil, that's all the more reason to hunt him down--he knows his native country well enough to give valuable intelligence to his new buddies--and to slip in and out of our country without attracting any attention (well, at least until he was exposed as a Yankee Doodle Terrorist).

And the fact that this 'secret' memo was in the New York Times, not as another step towards destroying Al Qaeda, but as an indictment of Obama's administration's 'thirst for blood'—well, that you'd have to take up with the Tea Party. The final proof of their mania?—the fact that they attack Obama even when he's killing terrorists at a faster clip than Bush could!

When Obama campaigned, news that he'd even hinted at open dialogues with Iran and other anti-American nations almost destroyed his image. And yes I, too, think our Head of State should never bother ‘talking’ while we still have plenty of Bunker-Busters—who wants some level-headed, sensible person becoming president?!

Now I’ve got to wonder if Al-Qaeda is truly the most dangerous fundamentalist terrorist group America faces. Who has done more to obstruct our President, our human rights and our health, financial, and educational systems—Al-Qaeda or the Republicans? Well, Al-Qaeda has proven tough, resilient and deadly. Our historically-long War in Afghanistan proves that quite clearly. And Bin Laden’s plan to terrorize the West into expenses beyond our budget has had greater success than he could have dreamed of.

But another group has inundated our nation with propaganda and lies, splitting us neatly in half, in a time when E Pluribus Unum is a must. Another group has attacked our President right in Washington, D.C.—shouting ‘Liar!’ at him during a nationally televised State Of The Union address, accusing him of being born a foreigner (which he is not) and being a Muslim (after attacking his life-long Protestant church). And let us remember, there isn’t anything wrong with being a Muslim—only with being a terrorist.

Another group has taken over our legislative branch and prevented any reasonable legislation from being passed, or at least made the process take twice or three-times as long as it should. Our health care policies remain an open wound; our financial institutions are stealing from taxpayer’s bailouts to pay lobbyists to block financial reforms. I can’t imagine the state of mind of this one-half of our citizenry that remain supportive of the GOP—how do they justify voting for these disgracefully un-American cretins and hypocritical evangelists?

Now Obama’s staff-members have to sneak secret memos back and forth to get the green-light to kill one of the most dangerous, surviving Al-Qaeda operatives? Now we are considering putting our Armed Forces at increased risk to capture this traitor without harming him? All's I can say is: "America, make up your damned mind!"
