Miss Average And 11 Pairs Of Brand New Shoes
Join 1000's of Authors at StreetArticles Today!

That’s it. I am officially Miss Average! According to a new survey the average British woman has 11 pair of brand new shoes in their wardrobe that they have never worn. When I read this headline, I thought ‘ how ridiculous’. I love shoes, but there’s no way that I would have 11 unworn pairs in my wardrobe. So I did a quick count. Actually it was 15 pairs of shoes and 3 pairs of boots, so not quite miss average after all.

The survey also reports that these 11 pairs of brand new shoes are included in a total of twenty. No I’m definitely not Miss Average. I won’t say exactly how many I own, but let’s just say I have quite a few more. I’m no Imelda Marcos, but along with a lot of other women I do love shoes. Sad it may be, but I always get a thrill when I buy a new pair.

But why would women have brand new shoes in their wardrobe? Well apparently it’s because we often buy them, ‘for that special occasion’. I can certainly attest to that. I have a lovely pair of open-toed shoes in soft buttermilk leather trimmed with black and witha heavy silver studded heel and curly silver decoration across the toes. Desgined by Phi, I was lucky enough to get them at a hugely reduced price. I get them out periodically just to look at them, but Ive actually no idea when I am ever going to wear them and each time I wrap them carefully in tissue and return them to their box.

As for my other brand new shoes, when I looked at them I had an excuse for why I hadn’t worn them, which varied from ‘yet to find a suitable occasion’, ‘a little too tight’ or ‘not quite the right colour’. If you’re wondering if I felt a little guilty – yes I did. Watching me looking at my shoes my husband muttered not for the first time “I will never understand women and their shoes”

And no he won’t. Whether male or female if you’re not into shoes, then you’ll never understand what shoes can do for your figure and your self esteem. They can make the wearer feel taller, thinner, more confident and sexier. There really isn’t another accessory that is able to do all those things.

However, before you purchase your next pair of brand new shoes, it might just be time to get out one of the unworn pairs you already own. Alternatively, you could follow my example and clear out the shoes that really have seen better days, take ones that you will never wear to a local charity shop and tidy up the rest. Now I have the space ready for my next pair of brand new shoes. Bliss!
