A lot of Seniors are asking the question. Who will the Republican nominee for President be? Well that question has been answered. Barring a major faux pas it will be Mitt Romney. So who is Mitt Romney and what is his stance towards Seniors.
For me the who is easy to answer. He is a family man first and a business man second. Oh yeah he is also a Mormon. I don’t find a problem with that. He is unashamed of his religion and actively supports it. True there has never been a Mormon president but there had never been a Catholic president before President John F. Kennedy. I think this will be much less of an issue than a lot of people would like to make it out to be.
His stance on Seniors seems to be in favor of helping them versus hurting them as some have suggested. His view on Social Security is very simple. No changes for those on, at or near retirement but changes to the retirement age for those who will be entering the system later. He also wants to stop the government from using those funds for anything other than Social Security. Simple and straight forward and not the dismantling of the system.
I think we all agree that Medicare needs to be fixed. His view is that of a business man. Cut out the waste and fraud to start then set down and revamp the system so it is efficient in the future. He has no plans to reduce care for existing patients or those in the future. He does have a plan for a well run system.
Health care or whatever you would like to call it is an issue he has learned some hard lessons on. As governor Of Massachusetts he instituted a health care plan that included coverage for everyone. That didn’t work out so well. He says he will take lessons learned there and combine them with allowing competition across state lines, and allowing the states to take more initiative on what they want.
I think his biggest help to Seniors will be in the economic arena. He plans to put Americans back to work and make the atmosphere more conducive to starting and expanding businesses. He will lift restrictions on drilling and get the EPA and DOE off the backs of companies. Just doing this will stabilize the economy and put the country back on track.
As I’m sure you are already aware I am a conservative and proud of it. I think Romney is conservative enough to get this country back on its feet. Whatever your views, stand up for them and vote at every opportunity.
I agree Joan. Now that he has more time to just be himself I think I like him more.
Thanks to all for their comments. I believe we will see a strong voter turnout in November. I appreciate all the comments even if they don't agree with me. I think disagreement is necessary to get to a solution that works.
John, Thanks for a recap of what's going on. blessings, Cynthia
Our country needs leadership and a strong president....and in my mind a real leader hasn't been in office since President Reagan...
Ok as you all know I am not an American, and my views as to who you vote for would have no influence, but what I do see is that you all need to get out and vote a poor turn out at the poles has never helped a country. Power to the people that vote.
I attempt to respect all member of our society, because we all have the right to our opinion. If you are conservative, I hope you are a rich one. If you are a rich one, disregard this comment. I strongly suggest you read the Paul Ryan's plan and how it relates to seniors. The mere mention of a voucher system for seniors should be enough to cause pause. Imagine yourself at the ripe old age of ninty plus trying to discuss insurance matters. Our seniors, if you are not one now, if you continue to breathe, you will be, should be given the respect they are due.
I agree, voting is essential. I am also conservative and hope that we can get this country back on its feet. Thank you for this article.
