Out Of Control Mind

The World reacted with shock and horror at the breaking news of another innocent female death.

On Valentine’s Day, 2013 Oscar Pistorius (26) shot and killed his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp (29) in his home in Pretoria, South Africa.

Pistorius is a double amputee who lost his legs at a very young age because he was born without fibula bones in both legs.

Six shots were apparently fired through the bathroom door, four, of which, hit Steenkamp.

It is suggested that Pistorius suspected an intruder and opened fire through the closed bathroom door.

Why was Steenkamp in the bathroom? Was she trying to escape from an irate lover? Was she hiding or trying to protect herself?

We will never know the true reasons unless some if it should come out at the trial.

It is also reported that neighbours heard loud arguments coming from Pistorius’ home and that t hey called in the police to investigate the disturbance. This happened some hours before the shooting.

Pistorius made history in 2012 when he was the first ever South African athlete, with disabilities, to be included in the team for the London Olympics.

He later won two gold medals at the Paralympics.

An athletics commentator, who knew Pistorius well, wrote that Pistorius may well have had serious issues about his disability and never received any psychological help or counseling to help him deal with it.

This brings us to the point of considering the power of the mind, if directed correctly.

The old adage goes – “Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” I am referring to money power.

It is well known that Pistorius earned many millions from sponsorships.

Do we have a situation here where a small incident triggered, an untrained mind, to totally loose control?

Another parallel can be drawn here with the behaviour of Tiger Woods some time ago.

Could we speculate that the possession of huge fortunes of money led to the incumbents believing that they had become untouchable and could do as they wished?

We will not know the truth, or part thereof, until after the trial. A person is presumed innocent until proven guilty. Let the law run its course.

Pistorius, not withstanding his disability, reached great heights on the sporting fields and this indicates a strong will to succeed.

If only he had received the correct mind training he may also have been able to handle the smaller upsets of life.

Do not despair. There are wonderful books available to help in these situations. Brilliant researchers have finally discovered how the brain really functions.

Very nice article Theo! I don't usually watch too much news, so I hadn't heard about this until reading it here. It is such a tragedy that these things happen. Sometimes just the littlest thing can set a person off to do something so terrible to someone that they supposedly love. I guess that tiny little thing doesn't seem like it is tiny to a person in the wrong mind set...until it's too late. If only people would stop and think of the consequences to their actions and ask themselves "is it really worth taking someone's life for? and where will this action get me?" before doing something so awful.

Thank you for commenting SherryB. The proverbial last straw may seem totally insignificant to you and me, but it has a massive impact on the perpetrator.

wow....when I was 23 I said I was done reading the news because I read in the news that some lady threw all of her children out the window of a (I do not remember) 12th floor window and then jumped out herself...the teenage child lived....What a thing to have to get straight in your mind before moving on....I also read that some parent had beat his baby 3 months old to death with a peanut butter jar......This was almost 40 years ago....it was happening then ...there are way too many people with no training on how to deal with...well...much of anything anymore.....Why is this not being addressed anywhere in life?....still....I would love for you ...who seems to have knowledge of this to write a list of these books where people could get help for these trying times we live in....because right now...they will only get worse....our economy is going to just get more trying for people in the next few years.....as I understand it.....Thank you so much for writing about such things and maybe give some of these people the help they need to get through whatever is to come.....thanks for another great article.......k

Thank you for your comments Sister Kaite. Very valid and true. It is incomprehensible what some people can get up to. I believe a lot of it comes from their own upbringing. You know, wife beaters breed wife beaters. Links will follow shortly.
