Questions Women Ask Men That They Should Never Answer

Poor Pippa Middleton. Ever since her she glided up the aisle in the wake of her old sister, at the Royal Wedding she has been at the centre of fervent gossip mostly about her beautiful body and fantastically shaped rear. There are now facebook pages dedicated to the appreciation of Pippa Middleton’s back view. As frivolous as this may seem it was clear Miss Middleton made an impact with both men and women.

Well yesterday she was back in the news again, even if it was in an indirect way. On Wednesday of this week a car was spotted in the Highgate area of Birmingham in the UK, daubed in white paint with the words “Is Pippa’s bum still better than mine?” Ouch. Clearly one woman was not happy. Of course we don’t exactly know what happened but I think I can guess. The woman in question asked her boyfriend how her own bottom compared with the attractive Miss Middleton’s and he was stupid enough to suggest that Miss Middleton’s rear was better.

Silly man. He clearly hasn’t learnt one of the fundamentals lessons in life – how not to annoy your partner. There are questions that women ask men that they should never ever be foolish enough to try and answer. Questions about comparisons with other people are always a potential minefield. However the man answers he’s likely to get it wrong. Other examples of questions women ask men include questions about weight and age. The problem is that younger men generally don’t get it. If a woman asks this question, she certainly doesn’t want a truthful answer, she wants the right answer that makes her feel better.

Many years ago I remember moaning to a boss of mine about my weight. She was trying to reassure me about the way I looked until I said how much I weighed which was about 13 stone. She said she was surprised, because she didn't think I looked that large. She then turned to one of my male colleagues who had no concept of sensitivities about women and their weight and demanded to know how much he thought she weighed. The moment he opened his mouth I started to shake my head in horror. When he said in all innocence that she looked about the same weight as me, I choked over the water I was sipping and she nearly choked with rage.

Of course was she much lighter (about 2 and a half stone) than me, so she was not best pleased to think we might look the same, but she hadn't asked the question to get a truthful answer. She tore into him telling him off for being so insulting. Later on my hapless colleague told me that he hadn’t expected that reaction. I’m afraid I was a bit mean and laughed at his discomfort. I did take the time to explain to him that are certain questions women ask men that they don’t want the answers to (unless of course you give the right answer). I certainly don’t think it was a mistake he made again in a hurry.

So to all men out there. If your girlfriend wife or partner asks how they look in comparison to Pippa Middleton or anyone else don't answer them. And to any women who's tempted to ask their man one of those types of questions - don't even go there.

Street Talk

Women always claim that honesty is what's most important to them. But as you pointed out, women are looking for a comforting answer rather than an honest answer. Are we men completely wrong to feel as though we are in a lose/lose situation sometimes?

I think often you are in a lose/lose situation. It's one of the many vagaries of human behaviour.
