For students who are making crochet mattresses for earthquake victims in Haiti, it is such a wonderful and beautiful thing. There is so much going on in the world in general, and I just have to say "thank God for unselfish individuals".
For many of us in the United States, we take the littlest things for granted. Even more so, we take our lives for granted. And because the United States of America is so well developed and is developing more and better things for us to use, everything comes so easy for us, don't you think so?
I mean, honestly speaking here, who would have ever thought of crocheting the plastic bags that comes from milk into a mattress? And the funny thing about it is that a girl name Lucy Gaudet learned that her mother crochets these plastic bags into mattresses and gives them to a orphanage in Haiti. How amazing is that for her making a difference in someone's life that is less fortunate than her?
It really takes a unselfish person to do this kind of thing for people who they know nothing about. It kind of reminds me of nurses and doctors. Even though they get paid to save lives, at least they are doing something that many of use wouldn't dare do.
This is not to say that we wouldn't want to save at least one person's life, but we would rather just do our own thing.
Now, out of the hundreds of bags collected to make theses crochet mattresses for the earthquake victims in Haiti, bothe children and adults, Gaudet and her crafters crew are focusing more on the children. With a total of 14 classes and grades 4 through 8, the students are encouraging and are learning Haiti's culture, as well as the demage that has cause the devastation of this country.
There are so many people helping out and learning the craft of crochet mattress that I wonder if anybody can help out? Because it rains and the mattresses get humid, one of Gaudet students makes a certain type of material that can easily be removed and washed from the crocheted mattresses.
There are students who are helping other people better their life and not thinking about themselves. Haiti victims are given crochet mattresses to help rest their bones and it is great learning what difference people are making in other people's life that are struggling just to make it another day.
