The Year it All Ended, 2012?

I have heard on a number of occasions that the world is about to end.

In fact, on December 21, 2012, we can assume that THIS IS IT. No, this is not the Michael Jackson tour that never was...

THIS. IS. IT.

The end...kaput, nothing more to worry about or to look forward to. The Mayan Calendar has predicted that this will be the day that the world turns over, digs a grave, and welcomes everyone along for the ride.

Actually, the Mayan Calender didn't really predict this. They predicted the future, and since the the calendars also worked in 5 millennial increments (5,000 years), they made predictions into the distant future as well.

The Mayan Calendar simply ends on the date December 21, 2012. Does this mean they were predicting something, or was it simply because they were tired of keeping track of predictions that they would never have the opportunity to realize.

To a normal logical human being, the end of the calendar likely does not mean the end of the world. It simply means that that was the last entry into the prediction calendar. It came to an end. The amount of time in the future is literally INFINITE and the rocks they were carving the numerals into were a limited resource...could you imagine etching one million years into the future in stone?

Why do we believe a stone carving society over one that CAN SEND SATELLITES TO FAR AWAY LANDS!

We really are a crazy species, but I think it is a result of all the media we are exposed to. It truly dumbs us down as a society. People are convinced into believing something as outrageous as a "stone" prediction, and then Apocolypse shows, the History Channel propoganda...and of course, the release of the "2012" blockbuster movie.

NASA caught wind of this and decided to retract from their normal day of creating many of the modern day miracles of SCIENCE, to let people know that it is going to be OK, and you can stop hiding under the covers. There is absolutely nothing that indicates the world is going to end this year.

I am sorry we all wasted your time NASA...you do have much better things to do like fly people to space and solve problems that most people cannot understand (in particular if they believe we only have 360 and change days to live).

You know, real things that could potentially end our existence. Geomagnetic reversal, earthquakes or volcanoes of massive proportion, a collision with a planet that has not yet been found, and of course an alien invasion...

I Would Like to Offer My Own Prediction

The world is not going to end any time soon. People may not inhabit the earth for much longer if we continue fighting and abusing the world as we are, but the world isn't simply going to vanish without a HUGE scientific event taking place or perhaps a war gone wrong (which the media would like you to believe as well.

And if I am wrong and the world does end on December 21, 2012, you will never be able to tell me....

Street Talk

"stone" prediction, and then Apocolypse shows, the History Channel propaganda... very humorous! Poor lost sheep. if its not the Mayan Calendar, it'll be The Hale Bopp Comet or possibly another Jim Jones that will get them.

Have to admit, it's pretty exciting. But that's only because I don't believe the world's ending right now. The Mayans were misunderstood. There are many religious zealots who are going to be disappointed on December 21st. Fire and brimstone seems to appeal to them. Many of them are looking forward to the rapture. I do believe we are entering a new age, however. I sure hope we will all be improved.

Yeah, people seem to love putting "fear" into the eyes of the public. Those that believe into this stuff are being brainwashed, there is nothing that make sense about this. I tried to find some real logic behind the world ending in 2012, but none existed. It is a matter of people listening to what they hear and not informing themselves, so a good deal of the general public (unfortunately).

Yeah, exactly, there are going to be a lot of people that profit from FEAR like they do in every other aspect of media. The fear driven business model works, even if you make something crazy like this up.

Yeah, something naturally there are some massive volcano beds in the US, Yellowstone is another one that could put us into an iceage. That is more realistic and in fact, based on "science" (I know, sometimes it is strange for people to use facts), based on historic it could happen in the near future...

How many remember the predictions of the year 2000 and the mishaps predicted to our home computers? I must admit that 1 minute past 12 I ended in front of the computer to see if the predictions were correct. Wasted time. Yet I still look forward to the date, in case!!

Yeah, I think I fell for that one too...as it was somewhat plausible and I was a bit younger at the time (and more naive). This one is ridiculous though and nobody is ever going to be able to prove me wrong...because if it does happen, I won't be here to get any backlash! :)
