When Did It All Change?

When I was a kid, we walked to school every day by ourselfs or with friends and along the way we did what kids do have some fun on the way to school with each other.

It is now 2012 and kids are driven to school in the car or walked by a parent. Then if that is not bad, enough they pick them up also.

My mother, I am sure walked us to school when we were small, oh no she never, we walked at the age of 5-6, all kids did. Mind you, we never had that far to go, but we joined all the other kids on the way to school every morning, it was a bit of an adventure before school, it was safe to do so.

Gangs have always been a part of society perhaps a way for youth to be appreciated, not really sure the reason, never had no want to join one. They always have been on the wrong side of the law or at least a pain in the laws side and societies.

They were a pain to live with, walking through certain areas was most certainly going to get you robbed, maybe beaten up for no real reason, except for they think it is fun. You picked yourself up off the ground and got the hell out of there, as they laugh at you as you take off. You at least could get up a run away.

It is 2012 and gangs are still here but with one distinction, they are still a thorn in society eyes and for sure for law enforcement. Not happy with robbing and beating folk up for their money any more, they have turned to shooting innocent by standers.

Governments once, I think they did, helped the average citizen and were expected to keep them safe from harm and do right by them or for them. Men and women of all ages come marching back from hell (war) they were off fighting for our freedom, democracy.

It is now 2012 and the world economy is in a hurt and in a big way, governments all over the world are struggling to stay afloat. Here in Canada we have found that Alberta has enough oil to choke a horse (literally). Our governments see dollar signs as being an oil producing country, almost sounds like it would work.

Except for the fact, the government that we elect to keep us safe is killing us. Not directly as in Syria (another article for those tragedies) but death is the outcome never the less. Perhaps even crueler than bombing and shooting them, they give them cancer. The kicker is they blame it on the natural cycle of the river they have lived off of for generations.

Nothing to do with that horrible pollution they are pouring into the river from taking oil from the oil sands. The money our governments spend on propaganda telling the world that our oil sands are safe, I am sure would feed the homeless children in our Country, twice or three times over.

I could go on and I will in other articles but when did it all change? Why do we have to walk our children to school? Kid gangs use guns and kill others as if life has no meaning at all, do they really understand what they are doing? Our paid and elected representatives in our governments are supposed to keep us safe from harm, not give us cancer and hide it in the name of what is good for the Country.

Life has taken a turn for the worse, when did it happen or is it just a bad movie script playing out and the end is near, all will go back to normal.

Of course, there has always been crime and folks who just can’t live in civil society, doing others harm for their own justification.

When did the whole of society join in the behavior, does money mean that much, is this the reason it has all changed?

It is time this movie ended and people of the world start living with each other and nature instead of destroying it all for their own unlawful gains. Of course, at the peril of many for the enjoyment of a few cruel humans, not quite right is it.

Street Talk

When did it all change is thought provoking. We need to take action, don't we, to make our neighborhoods safer. But? The bad stuff's gone on in background. As we're learning in news of football over people (abuse ignored). And as we've learned from environment being trampled (from oil now to other things past). Money... power... is indeed a peril for people harm to collect untold unneeded collections of money and power.

I often look back at the times of my childhood and ask the same question When did it change? I think the answer is when we became complacent and decided to let the government do for us what we should be doing for ourselves.

If enough people are aware of what has been happening, and if they get angry enough, things will change. I would be wary of letting my kids walk alone to school today. I'd even worry about them taking their bikes out for a ride. When I was little, we were gone all day, home for dinner, and no one had need to worry.

Yes Joan it seems like those days are gone, can we actually get enough folks angry enough to take action....it seems like such a small thing walking to school alone and taking a ride on your bike....but today it is a major undertaking....it should not be this way....thanks for the comment Joan

The scenario drawn, one of a downward spiral, is happening all over.. money the drive engine, and destruction the exhaust gas.. Time to switch off the engine, or to refuel with a different grade so that the exhaust gasses are cleaner...
