Why We Need More Political Parties And A National Primary

When I say we need more political parties that goes without saying that we need to get rid of the Electoral College and the practices that give candidates delegates that they do not earn.

That means a person's vote would always count.

Here in Idaho for example, a vote for any national candidate that is not a Republican is usually a lost vote because the state usually goes Republican.

On election night we would not be looking at Blue and Red states. We would be looking at the popular vote across the country. The television graphics would lose some of there glitter but that would be just fine for me. That Red and Blue stuff could ignite another civil war.

In my brilliant plan, a National Primary would narrow the number of candidates for the presidency down to the two with the most votes regardless of party.

When we look at the current parties, it is obvious that they are greatly divided. The Republican Party needs to be split between the extremely conservative side which could include the Tea Party and the conservative side. The Democratic would probably remain as the liberal end of the spectrum but the Independents need to be represented as a unit. And we need to leave room for Dr. Ron Paul.

These parties would put up their candidates for election in the National Primary but nobody would be restricted to voting for only candidates of one party. They would be crossing party lines left and right.

In my plan, both winning National Primary candidates could be Republican, one conservative and one extremely conservative, a Democrat and one of the Republicans, or an Independent with one of the other species.

Since there would only be two candidates in the National election, the winner would be elected by the majority of the voters.

The law that allows Super PACs needs to be rescinded. It is ridiculous that we allow one man to spend millions to buy the election.

Candidates should be allowed to accept small donations from individual at the level an average American can afford. I would set a maximum of $100.00 with no participation by corporations.

Only individual donations would be accepted.

America is not a democracy, it is a republic. If it were a democracy, one person would have the same political power as another, his vote.

One thing that scares me, other than the current slaughter in the Republican Party, is those who want to nullify the American tradition of separation of Church and State. President Kennedy reenforced it which one candidates says was dead wrong. Well, he is dead wrong! Do we want to have some church running our government like the religious dictatorships we have been and are fighting? We do not need a Taliban, Ayatollah, Cleric, Baptist, Mormon, Catholic, or any other such dictatorship.

The Mormon's do not allow preaching politics over the pulpit. (I know because I hear the warning every election year from church officials.)

A church can lose its tax free status for preaching politics. It's time we collected some tax money from those churches who do preach politics rather than leaving such things to the individual to decide for himself.
