Are you a bit confused with all the information out there about E Cigarettes? Let me see if I can add to that confusion and introduce to you Vaporing, Vaping or the Vapor Cigarette.
People in the vapor world do not call it a cigarette, it is basically called "Vaping". Yes, there is a whole other world out there for you when you move off cigarettes and move into vaporing.
What is Vaping?
I must tell you first, that vaping is not smoking. Let me explain before you get all wilded-eyed looking on me...
Vaping uses a Propylene Glycol or Vegetable Glycerin base liquid and you mix that with a small amount of nicotine and food grade flavoring.
But before I get ahead of myself let me backup and show you how vaporing works so you have a better understanding about Vaping.
How does it all work?
A vapor tool will use a rechargeable lithium battery and a replaceable cartridge known as a Cartomizer. The liquid I spoke about above that is mixed together, this is usually put in a "tank" or some other holding device that will sit on top of the battery.
This is where you can get lost in the Vaping world because there are a lot of vaping products available and if you are not sure what you are looking for you can spend a lot of money investing into products until you find the one that is good for you.
As a retired smoker and one that has "been there done that" I want to give you some sound advice before you step into this world.
The Tube:
This is the tool that will house your battery. Some of the good tubes will show you how much of a battery voltage you are using and this can be great. I use 6volts (2/3volt rechargable batteries) in my tube since the day I started vaping. I did not want to waste my money starting at the lower size battery and then end up having to invest in the larger size.
The Battery:
This is the key to any vapor tool you purchase. It is all in the battery. The bigger the battery the better the throat hit and the more smoke you will generate.
Batteries come in 3 basic sizes. You will see the cigarette size (510) to slightly larger (eGo) to huge (18650 type). There are others and you will see many different types of variations but as I mentioned earlier, to save you some money and time always look at the size of your battery.
The life of the battery mostly depends on how much you are vaping. From my vaping experience I can go 24 hours on my 2 3volt rechargeable batteries.
What you need to keep in mind here is that EVERY person switches battery types down the road. You may start out with the 510 battery because it was a better price and it was easier to start with, but if you are serious about vaporing, you will get a bigger battery. I am telling you this to save you money down the road. Go big or go home!
The Cartridge:
This is also called the "Tank". This is where you eLiquid will be housed as you smoke.
A tank can come in many different colors and styles. You will need to clean your tank and you do this with Everclear! Or you can do it with plain alcohol but I like to make a night out of it.
When you aren't getting a good pull or the vapor dies down, this means it is time to clean your Tank.
You don't want to use tap water due to the minerals, just let it soak for about 15 minutes in the alcohol of your choice and then clean it out and dry it out. You are set to go.
The Atomizer/Cartomizer/Clearomizer:
This is where vaporing can get tricky. If you do not know what you are looking for you will end up buying something that you can not use.
A clearomizer is a cartomizer, an atomizer and cartridge in one, that comes transparent/ clear.
A cartomizer is an atomizer and cartridge with a filler material that soaks up the eliquid.
Most suppliers are calling this a Cartomizer. The tricky part is knowing what you are using and this can get very in-depth because of the threading.
Pay close attention because this is a replacement item that you will be purchasing. This item is not expensive to replace and you will need to replace every 3-4 months depending on how many your order up front. Normally they come in a package of 5 and the price range can be from $1.50 - $8.00 When I order I usually get about 2-3 packages.
The reason you want to make sure you know what type of Cartomizer you use on the tool you purchase is because this is what screws into your battery. If it doesn't fit, you must aquit :)
E-Liquid:
Now to my favorite part of Vaporing. The juice!
The world is your oyster and it has been served to you on a silver platter. You will find any type of flavor you want and if you can't find it you can make it yourself.
You might be surprised that even though you are coming off of cigarettes and you think you want the taste of a cigarette, that may not be the case. Trust me on this. Your taste buds will completely change, your smell will completely change and even your work habits will change.
Now a menthol smoker might still enjoy the menthol taste in the e-Liquid. I was not a menthol smoker but that is one of my favorite e-Liquids, but the tobacco e-Liquids, YUK!
The starting flavors for a beginner vaper seem to be the cinnamons, peppermints, menthols and red hot candy type flavors. This is because they give you a good hit and you can really taste the flavor.
Once your system and your mind have adjusted to vaporing moving more into the fruity, beverage or candy flavors are really fun. I have a coffee flavor in the morning to get me going and then a fruity flavor for my afternoon work and then later in the evening I will do a more menthol, calming flavor. I know it sounds like a lot but I have 3 different tools I play with so I keep each one filled with a different flavored juice.
Tip or Drip Tip:
This is the tip that will sit on top of your Cartomizer/Atomizer and where the vaporizer is inhaled. I have a lot of drip tips because I like them!
There is not a lot to tell you about the drip tip other than it fits into your cartomizer. They are fun and I always color match them with my tube, but I am a girl...what did you expect!
Now for your nicotine Level:
When you order your e-Liquid it will ask you the nicotine level you want in your e-Liquid.
This nicotine level can go from 0mg to 24mg. Any higher then 24mg can be dangerous, so even if you make your own juice be careful.
As a beginner a good level is 16mg. This is considered "Medium Level". If the seller does not offer a 16mg, then do not go lower because you will end up vaping a lot more and going through your juice to fast. Go a notch up and do the 18mg level.
You will find yourself experimenting with different nicotine levels because you may want to eliminate the nicotine all together in your juice, which is the process I am in now.
It all seems like so much and for a smoker they will find every excuse not to investigate but I have moved close to 20 people into vaporing. Now I know that doesn't seem like a lot of folks but that is 20 people that are no longer smoking a carcinogen filled cigarette.
Yes, there is nicotine in e-Liquid but it is no different then the caffeine in a cup of coffee.
Just an FYI before I leave, vaporing has no smell. It is just a water vapor, so the only thing that draws attention to you is the smoke. People are expecting to smell the smell of a cigarette and when they don't they start to wonder what the heck you are doing over there!
Everyone that I have converted over to vaporing in my office used to take a 15 minute break every hour to two hours, now, they do not even leave their desk. I was even given an award at my job by management for helping people be more productive. All because of vaporing.
So please, if you are a smoker, learn, read, investigate about vaporing. You can always ask me questions because I will be happy to help out. I promise it could change your life.
you ARE the "Vapin' Queen"! Yeah, we use 18mgs and its strong like an American Spirit Blue, or something like that. Use this and its cut down the smoking like 90% !! she knows of what she speaks, folks. Very in depth article and personable writing style ;o)
I just like how this stuff doesnt have all the extra tar and carcinogens they throw into cigarettes these days. Like they need to kill you faster lol.
I quit smoking after many years and use these as well. They actually do work.
Great article. I will certainly share this with all the smokers that I know. Keep up the great work. I will share on Facebook.
