I have noticed a large amount of news recently with different companies distributing free e-cigarette starter kits. Part of me wonders if this is just the latest craze among the quit smoking industry, like nicotine patches and gum before, or whether there is a real significant difference with this method. In this article I am going to talk about some of the pros and cons of e cigarettes, as well as tell you the method I used myself to quit, which was in my opinion, far easier, cheaper, and faster.
It is widely believed that nicotine addiction is one of the hardest things facing a smoker, and this explains the popularity of nicotine replacement devices. While many smokers end up reliant on these devices themselves, they say that it is at least better than smoking, it might not be cheaper, but it sure beats suffocating oneself.
It is true that the health benefit is a great attraction to many. The idea that one can ween themselves off smoking gradually while enjoying far greater health benefits immediately sure appealed to me when I first tried.
This is clearly a pro for the e cigarette, but I personally quit because I wanted to be free from the slavery to the cigarette, as well as the health reasons, the idea of becoming reliant on an electronic cigarette didn't really appeal to me, so I looked elsewhere. I hadn't realized at the time that nicotine addiction is not actually the hardest part about quitting smoking, it is the psychological addiction that we have to contend with, the e cigarette can't really do a lot for you on this and I found that the e cigarette just reminded me of smoking.
So Why The Sudden Popularity Surge?
Recent research has shown that there is an 80% reduction in smoking from using an e cigarette. Again, this looks like a great figure, but that means there is still 20% left being smoked. If you smoke 10 per day, that is still 2 cigarettes a day to go with the e cigarette (which probably isn't free after the start kit has run out).
Of the 40 people who were observed during the 24 week period of research, 9 managed to quit cigarettes completely, however only 3 of those had stopped using the e cigarettes completely. Again this might seem great, but I quit smoking instantly using Allen Carr's book and didn't need to keep puffing on anything for 24 weeks (half a year)
Don't Get Me Wrong
You probably think I am hating on e cigarettes too much, and I agree it does look that way, but I am aware that people can quit for good using this method, so for them, I am very happy, but I personally believe that they quit in spite of the e cigarettes and I am also frustrated that I keep seeing so many quit smoking products pushed out that offer nothing new, when there are perfectly good methods, tried and tested, that work faster and cheaper.
This is very interesting! My brother smokes so this could be helpful for him as he is trying to quit at the moment. Thanks Dom
