You are a smoker and you know that. You wake up in the morning with the occasional smokers cough, nothing too serious so you brush it off and off to work you go - but you got to have that one cigarette to puff away, before your day. The end of the day nears and that once full pack starts to look half empty; you feel the fatigue, stress from work, and irritated that you are almost out of cigarettes. Could it be time that you start looking for another smoking alternative?
You are not alone
For starters, you are definitely not alone, as 2 out of every 3 smokers say they want to get out of the carcinogenic band wagon they got used to riding all these years, and there are currently 46 million riders in the US. If this giant wagon was a country, it would rank 27th in the world population right between Colombia and Spain.
Like burning a hundred dollar bill everyday
Now think for a moment on how much money you spend on cigarettes a week, a month, how about a year? I'll tell you. The average person spends $3,650 on tobacco in a year. That means in the next 10 years, you can have enough money to buy a brand new foreign luxury car you always wanted or the entire year's worth of work for the average person's income of $36,500. You might as well take 365 big ones, roll it up into a cigarette, light it up, and smoke one every day for 365 days, you technically get the same effect, if not less carcinogens and tar inhaled from the bills smoked.
Smoking Cessation products
Smoking alternatives are a whole new ball game. If you buy the nicotine gum or the patch, it can cost you well over $50 a pack, and $1000's towards the end of the year, given you last long enough to put off smoking for good. Chances are you won't as 17 million people try to quit each year and only 1.3 million are able to remain smoke free.
The psychological and physical side to addiction
When most people try to find tobacco alternatives, they often deal with either the psychological or the physical. Psychological is the nicotine cravings, the need to smoke something or I'm going to run you over kind of thing. Physical deals with the action, like the act of smoking, sucking a toothpick, or holding something in hand. Most people fail to quit because they either do one or the other, having a nicotine patch to deal with it psychologically, chewing gum, or going cold turkey without either.
The next best smoking alternative
Now imagine holding an electronic cigarette in your hand for a moment, then put it in your mouth and pretend to smoke it. Now that we got the psychological part out of the way let’s talk function. Now repeat the same process, except this time you press on the switch and inhale the nicotine vapor from the e-cigarette. Your nicotine withdrawals diminishes and your need to smoke "something" disappears. This is what happens when you find a tobacco alternative that deals with the problem both psychologically and physically.
Deciding to quit smoking is not easy, so be proud of yourself when you finally do. The amount of money spent on tobacco and tobacco cessation products can be devastating financially and mentally. Most people fail to quit because they don't target both psychological and physical sides to addiction. Electronic cigarettes are starting to become more popular in their use due to it being a better tobacco alternative in terms of functionality, affordability, and they actually look and feel like the real thing. Now go ride your own smoke free wagon through your wonderful journey called life.
