Only 10% of all those who have tried to quit smoking have managed it "Cold Turkey", others of us have tried again and again and still return to that cancer causing stick that leaves us hacking lungs out at the side of the road. Some of us like myself wonder if not for the dirt, stench and ill health, why should I quit, well there in lies the answer doesn't it.
So what is it about smoking that works, because all of that above sure doesn't. Well in an understanding of what nicotine does to us as we consume it, we might find the answer. From my research and the quit smoking seminars I've been through it comes down to knowing that nicotine releases endorphins, and one in particular, dopamine, to the brain. These endorphins are naturally released when we laugh, play, listen to music and have fun amongst other things. Now, we have associated this feel good release of dopamine with everything we might take to a cigarette for hence, the Psychological Dependency. In the face of disaster we need a cigarette, dopamine, a serious argument, dopamine, the bad news that I have lung cancer, I need a cigarette.
Introducing nicotine replacement therapies (NRT). Research shows that these can double the odds of successfully kicking the cigarette addiction. NRT include products like the e cigarette, the e pipe and the e cigar, also the patch and gum but I have found the gum and patch release the nicotine arbitrarily and not when I call for it. The electronic cigarette on the other hand provides for dopamine when it is called for.
All of this said, the goal here is to get the body to start producing the endorphins naturally again. It might take a few weeks to get over the addictive agents that are a part of the normal cigarette, and after that, the real addiction, the nicotine, this will go on for quit a while but with nicotine cartridges of different strengths and flavours you can slowly relieve yourself of the nicotine intake to cartridges that are nicotine free. A relatively painless and inexpensive way to save your heart and lungs.
The quality e cigarette nicotine cartridges that I have researched contain about 250 to 300 puffs of nicotine in each one, each cigarette we smoke provides on the average about 10 to 12 puffs.
e Cigars work for me, I hope this nicotine replacement works for you too.
I'm currently a smoker but wanting to quit. I've quit a total of 4 times and the longest was 4 months. I utilized nicotine patches each time however, this last time had allergic reaction. Anyway I have often wondered about these electronic cigarettes and if they work. Thanks for this article. FYI: I had an encounter with a woman one time who had been smoke free for a couple years and mentioned that eating fruits curves the cravings. You might consider researching the reasons why.
Wow four months, that's a long time, I have heard the nicotine addiction goes on for 8 or 9 months. I didn't like the patch anyway, I didn't want a steady stream of nicotine I just want it to enhance the dopamine highs, and get the highs unnaturally when the body doesn't naturally produce dopamine, a mood elevator. With the e cigarette I get the nicotine when and where I want it and only then. They worked for me and they are clean, next to the harm cigarettes did to my health, the dirt bothered me most. I have a article drafted on the medical benefits, I hope to finish it this weekend and I hope you get it. I have been looking at publishing an article on the associations of food and smoking, I'll keep my mind open as to the fruit aspect. Thanks.
It`s great to have that option. I have a friend who is going through kidney failure and his doctor told him it was due to his addiction. But he STILL SMOKES!! I just want to know what messed up person is still selling to/ buying them for him....
Thing is and will be Humans were given choice and like I say, guy has heart pains says he need to relax, thereby going for a smoke. Nicotine is a serious addiction on the one hand and a medication on the other hand. The tar and carsnegens are the killers. Get over the cheap additional addictive elements of the cigarette, get a steady supply of nicotine and in 3 weeks you won't want to lite another dirty filthy cigarette (helps to have the right mind set and recognize the stupidity of lacing you lungs and home with tar). Good Luck to your friend in getting over the first 3 weeks.
Mike, I'm a current smoker of Djarum Clove Cigars (the worst things out I've heard), and I was seriously wondering what the odds of quitting were with use of the E-cigarette/cigar?
Get over the first 3 wks and have a steady supply of nicotine and you will never want to smoke tobacco again.
I'm glad I got this article out, it really tell us why we smoke. Without knowing what the problem is how can we fix it?
