There are many stop smoking effects and some of them are positive while others are negative. Fortunately, the positive ones tend to last longer than the negative ones and in fact if you never smoke another cigarette the positive ones will last for good. The negative stop smoking effects are quite severe but are only present for a few months. People find it hard to stop smoking because the of the severity of the nicotine withdrawal symptoms and the United Nations estimates that about 95% of people who set out to stop smoking without any kind of aid to help with the symptoms will fail within the year. Only 5% of quitters will be able to go one full year without smoking and these ones most likely have been smoking for a short period of time.

One of the most common stop smoking effects is irritability, nervousness, anxiousness and sometimes even depression. This happens because after some time of smoking nicotine attaches itself to your brain and when you smoke this triggers a release of the chemical dopamine. Dopamine is the chemical which is responsible for good feelings. Over time as association is made subconsciously between smoking and these happy feelings so whenever you get stressed in the future, you make sure that you reach for a smoke to calm you down. When you have quit smoking, you no longer have this crutch to lean on and this allows the stress to build up in you which in turn makes you quite irritable and anxious. Also since you no longer get that dopamine spike and since your irritability will not make you very pleasant to be around dopamine levels may fall considerably and this may bring on depression.

Another common stop smoking effect is weight gain. This is one of the most misunderstood stop smoking effects because many people simply assume that when you quit smoking you will gain weight. These people are not aware that smoking simply suppresses your appetite, which means you are less inclined to eat food which could make you fat when you are smoking. If you still eat junk food you will get fat whether you are smoking or not. This is also true when you are not smoking. Since your appetite is not being suppressed any more you are more inclined to eat. Also some people find refuge in food when they are feeling stressed and realize that they cannot smoke because they have made that decision not to. This can also lead to weight gain. There are plenty of methods which you can employ so that you do not gain weight when you quit smoking.

There are many ways in which you can make it easier for yourself to stop smoking. You just have to make the decision to quit and pick the right quit smoking solution for you.
