Something all smokers are looking for, the easy way to quit smoking, but is it a realistic search, or a mere fantasy?
Before I quit, I thought there was no easy method. I felt like it was just a case of finding "the least difficult" way rather than the easy way to quit. Smoking for me was something that I desperately wanted to quit and so I tried many different methods before eventually succeeding. I tried cutting down, I tried cold turkey, I tried inhalers and chewing gum, neither of them are what I would call the easy way to quit smoking, but for many people these methods have worked.
I'm not talking about the "only" way here, because there are many methods that work, what I will talk about is just what I regard as the easy way. Afterall, you can walk around the globe and you will succeed, but is it the easy way to get there?
The truth is, to quit smoking, you don't need a lot of products, you don't need to cut down over time to "build up to it", you don't even need to spend a long time psyching yourself up to it, it is not something that is difficult unless you understand why it is you are smoking in the first place.
Do you remember the first cigarette you smoked? How did it taste? If it was anything like mine, it tasted pretty bad, disgusting in fact. So bad that you thought you would never be able to get addicted to cigarettes. It's amazing now that you probably feel that you enjoy the taste and the process of smoking (I know I did before I quit), when you think about it, all cigarettes should taste the same, but they don't, that first one in the morning, or that one after a meal always seem to taste better.
This leads onto the next stage of the easy way to quit smoking, learning that the addiction lies almost entirely in the mind. Search any website online and you will find out that it only takes 3-5 days for most of the nicotine to leave your body, and after 3 weeks, 99% of it will be gone, if it was just a physical addiction, anybody could quit easily, 3 weeks isn't a long time.
Here's further evidence that smoking is in the mind. We all think we have pretty bad withdrawal pangs when we first quit, that's the main reason we look for the easy way to quit. Smoking gives us a lot of pleasure, and quitting gives us a lot of misery and discomfort right? If we try to go more than a few hours without smoking (most of us) we suffer large discomfort, stress, and panic. We think this is due to the withdrawal symptoms, but we can easily go 8-10 hours without cigarettes while we are sleeping and it doesn't even wake us up, that is how mild the withdrawal pangs really are.
This is why I say nicotine replacements such as patches, gum, inhalers and so on don't really work, they only deal with the physical aspect of the addiction, not the mental.
The reason that first cigarette tastes bad, yet others seem to taste amazing, is because of the withdrawal. Nicotine is a fast acting drug and leaves our bodies very quickly, so as soon as we extinguish a cigarette, our body is already starting to want another one, when we then light up that next one, we experience some pleasure. There is no REAL pleasure coming from the cigarette, it is just the relieving of pangs. The same as the feeling we experience after going to the bathroom when we first wake up. Believe it or not, the easy way to quit smoking is to just stop smoking.
There is a lot of information on smoking floating around the internet and most of it focuses on choosing reasons to quit and remembering them, fighting the urges and desires to smoke, this is the hard way, fighting. The easy way to quit smoking is to realize that there is nothing gained from smoking.
Doing some research into the smoking trap will let you learn how and why you are smoking, and this is of the utmost importance. How can you find the easy way to quit smoking if you don't have the reason you started?
There is too much to mention in just one article and I have only scratched the surface here, but I hope I have raised some points that will encourage you to approach smoking differently and help you really find the easy way to quit. Smoking doesn't have to be a difficult thing to kick.
