Hi, I've been smoking for 9 years now, and every so often I ask myself, why the hell do I smoke? Well I guess it’s just a bad habit and an expensive one at that.
I have tried quitting numerous times and every single time I fail. Well I did quit for a year while I was pregnant with my daughter, but I soon started when I returned back to work.
The funny thing is smokers know the dangers of smoking it is written boldly on the box. If you are like me well we choose to ignore the warnings.
Sadly it’s the people around us that has to suffer, namely the children. Did you know that smoking around children can cause severe ear ache and asthma. I have two kids and I feel guilty just having to light up a cigarette in front of them, so I don’t.
So why do we smoke? Or rather why can’t we kick the habit? It is known that a cigarette contains many harmful substances such as carbon monoxide, cyanide, nicotine and tar.
It is the nicotine that acts of the brain and affects the mood, alertness and concentration, thus making withdrawal symptoms such a bitch. On the physiological side of smoking, it just feels so damn good, to take out a cigarette and light it up, blowing away your anxiety and stress; I call it my “quick fix”.
So how the hell do I quit for good? It’s been proven that smokers who try to quit on their own usually relapse, I’m talking from experience, having the support from family members, friends and support groups would be more effective than doing it on your own.
So I need to kick this bad habit, it’s bad for my health and my children. There are so many ways to die, and I would not want a cigarette to be one of them.
There are so many talks about cancer and trying to prevent it, well smokers have a higher risk of becoming a statistic. I seriously do not want cancer.
So starting today I would like to educate myself and others of the dangers of smoking and the benefits of quitting this nasty, bad smelling drug we call a cigarette.
Good luck to all those smokers trying to quit and those who have quit, you my hero!! And to those who are thinking about smoking, please DO NOT’ it’s not just bad for your health but it spoils your image.
Good for you Michaela, I myself have smoked for 9-10 years, started when I Was 15, Am 25 now, turning 26 in August. I've quit now, permanently, although relapsing with a few cigarettes, 3 or 4 maybe in that time. I know now, i've changed my subconcious mind, my beliefs, and my attitudes towards cigs and nicotine in general. I'm glad to hear that you've become aware of your choices, which you make, or have made, every single time you light up a new one. you re-make those same choices, and its unfortuneate because once you realise the truth it stays with you forever. Its like being taught that 2+2=5 believing that for years, then all of a sudden being taught that the answer = 4. I have used champix, doesnt work for me, it altered too many chemicals in my brain, and I wasent feeling like myself. The suicidal thoughts are real, i've noticed them, after becoming aware of them I had to dig deep find the courage to admit to myself that truth, and stopped. Saught help, psychological, just to have some professional opinion. Now im totally confident in my ability to become healthy, happy, and increase and clean my energy field. Nicoderm patches work!! Use them!! Also nicorette gum is helpfull to me after larger/ midsize meals. I generally chew alot of gum anyways, so that takes the oral fixation part away. I encourage you! and it takes alot of 'deleting' your old beliefs that have been conditioned and buried far into your subconcious mind. I also found Allen Carrs audi book "the easy way to quit smoking" very helpful. he says things succinctly, honestly, and straight to the point, he makes you think of the addiction in a new light.
