The other day some one asked me why should I quit smoking?
I had to be careful how I answered this because I had to remember that only 18 short months ago I was still smoking 2 packs a day and had been smoking for 30 years. Of course I am happy to take pats on the shoulder for being able to quit. However I still know I was guilty of being a smoker for 30 years and that means for 30 years I was super stupid.
So when I look at it I realize there are several reasons when someone asks me why should I quit smoking?
1. So the first thing is what you are doing to your body and your health. Of course you are screwing up your lungs and your heart. Then a few health things are cancer,COPD and so much more.
2. The next thing is your second hand smoke is hurting the people you love that are around you. Think about what you are doing to your spouse, kids, parents, aunts, uncles, grand parents, grandkids and people you dont even know.
3. Smoking stinks. Why would anyone want to hang with you? Why would anyone want to hug or kiss you. The fact of the matter is your breath stinks, your clothes smell and you really do smell like a smelly old ashtray.
4. Smoking costs a lot of money. If for no other reason you should do the math to see how much money you could be spending on other things.
I guess for the most part the question why should I quit smoking is answered briefly in the above 4 points. The problem is no matter what people say quitting really is easier said then done.
As a smoker you are addicted to possibly the most dangerous drug in the world. Oh some would argue and say that drugs like cocaine, meth, acid, heroin and so forth are a lot worse. Just have a look around and see how many people die from smoking as opposed to the other drugs.
No one can force you to quit smoking. Even you cant force yourself to quit smoking. You have to absolutely want to quit. No matter how bad things may feel the only way you will ever quit is when you want to quit.
The day you do decide to quit is the day you can then put a plan in place. The want and the plan is the answer to why I should quit smoking. Its okay to follow through on a journey to quit smoking.
