Hello kitty FRS Family radio service walkie talkie communicators.
As a ham and CB Radio operator i am always looking for new ways to introduce the next generation of kids to the fun hobby of radio. With the technology that is growing bigger on a daily basis it is not always easy to show a younger person the charm of radio for communications, Cell phones being the biggest culprit as they getter more features and less expensive.
The Hello Kitty FRS radios are designed and engineered for children taking into consideration colors and designs that are more attractive as well as smaller hands and fingers.

With Christmas coming up fast, i had to find a sensible present that i could get my daughter while promoting radio in some way. We have a pair of Motorola TS5000 FRS walkie talkies that we use sometimes when we are at the mall, or just want to banter back and forth around the house. The problem with these radios is that for a kid they can be a bit intimidating. That is when i started searching Amazon and found the Hello Kitty themed FRS radios as a pair. After reading the reviews i feel comfortable ordering them for me and my daughter to use.
The Hello Kitty FRS radios come in pink with red trim with a "Hello Kitty" button on the face. The radio are really easy to use as well. They are also perfect for smaller hands unlike the full sized FRS radios like the ones i have now.
One of the issues that struck me as a bit annoying is the range in which they work, being only two miles. I found that odd seeing how most manufactures claim up to 50 miles and more for the range in which the radios work. Doing further research i found out that most FRS radios that only put out 1/2 watt only have a 2-3 mile range as well. When they put the claims on the package what they really mean is under ideal conditions using GMRS which has lot more power at 5 watts.
Overall i would say that these new Hello Kitty FRS radios are the ideal choice for putting the "MAGIC" back into radio.
Wonder how hard it would be to convert these radios to the ham bands.....would look a bit silly but would probably work.
