Tig welding is no different than mig welding. Even though they are spelled so closely together, they are totally different. Mig was the process I learned right before I Iearned how to tig weld. There was probably a reason why I learned mig welding second and tig welding third. The first kind of welding I was taught was flux core. Let me inform you on tig welding basics instead it may help.
Safety comes before all. You should always wear welding booths in the shop for safety reasons of in case something happens. For example, you were holding something heavy and it slipped from you grasps. You should wear steel toe booths to be precised. You should also wear safety glasses, gloves, and other welding protection.
You may want to start off with a lot of practice so you can get comfortable with tig welding. Start off by getting use to the pedal. It is very important you do that first while making some lines just by melting the metal. There is more to it than just making the lines as you may think at first. It helps you get familiar with the puddle and other things you will start to see and learn once you start with this. So the lines are one hundred percent helpful.
Next you are going to want to practice making lines while feeding the rod to the weld. Get the puddle established first before feeding the rod. It would be no good just jamming the rod into it. Once you got a puddle going, feed the rod manually. Remember to take your time and adjust to it.
You should make sure you keep the gas checked often as every week or so . Without the gas it is would pointless trying to weld with tig. At all times keep the electrode sharpened as often as possible. That is the backbone of tig welding. The most important thing is to be safe while you are tig welding.
Lets go over the basics of tig welding. So you must know safety is more important than anything, so be safe and wear the proper equipment. Practice makes perfect, so practice tig to get better. Once you got the lines down packed you can start feeding the rod manually. Make sure the gas is turned on and the electrode is sharpened.
