This delicious concoction traditionally has a base of mashed avocados and salt, but the variations today are plentiful. In modern cuisine, guacamole recipes usually call for chili, lime and diced tomatoes, but the versatility of this dip is apparent, as it has also been mixed with cheese, fruit, and various other vegetables and spices. Guacamole can be used as a dip for your favorite chips and vegetables in formal or informal circumstances. It is also widely used as a condiment, especially in Mexican cuisine, where it often graces tacos and burritos with its refreshing, bright flavors. Here are a few simple recipes for guacamole which are sure to keep your taste buds happy.

Guacamole with Cilantro

Also a staple in Mexican cooking, cilantro is a fresh herb which adds special regional appeal to any dish, but is particularly exciting when roughly chopped and added to a bowl of guacamole. We’ve done just that with this recipe but skipped the tedious chopping and added a cilantro mini cube for intense flavor, fast! Also in this mix are green onions, tomatoes and lime juice. Try serving this vibrant guacamole recipe at your next get-together. The lack of chili powder means this dip will have broad universal appeal.

Vegetable Guacamole

Like other guacamole recipes, this one starts off with the traditional base of ripe, mashed avocados and coarse sea salt. In this variation, we have upped the flavor quotient by adding lime juice, cilantro, spicy chopped jalapenos and a vegetable recipe mix! When adding the jalapenos, be sure to adjust the amount to match your desired level of heat. The seeds are always the spiciest part of a pepper, so if you’d like the flavor but not so much spice, omit them. The vegetable mix adds a surprising and savory flavor to this recipe, which will of course pair well with any Mexican cuisine, or work well as an appetizing dip.

Caribbean Guacamole

Here we have created a unique recipe for guacamole which is centered on non-traditional ingredients, but taste equally as fabulous as its classic counterpart. We started with a base of mashed avocados and added diced papaya, mango and pears. To balance these sweet and fruity flavors, we added savory cilantro, piquant lime juice and spicy chopped jalapenos. This fruity guacamole is a delightful departure from the norm, but still works in all its classic applications, only this time with a kick! If you can handle the heat, try substituting very finely diced habaneros instead of the jalapenos. This will give your Caribbean guacamole authenticity, as this particular region loves spicy food!
