If you been keeping up with the world of MMA lately you've noticed that two welterweight prospects, Rick Story and Dong Hyun Kim have recently taken a hit in their stocks and had lost there most recent fights. Rick Story lost a lopsided decision to Charlie Brenneman while Kim faced Carlos Condit and got knocked out in the first round. Story and Kim were both riding hot win streaks and were moving up to contender status however with these losses they are going to have to wait a little longer to get there shot at championship gold. Now most recently today MMAjunkie reported that Story called out Kim, one has to wonder how this fight would play out.
1. Story Pressures Kim.
One thing about Story is, he doesn't allow you to catch your breath. He is famously known to put unrelenting pressure on his opponents with wicked shots to the body. He also works harder than most of the fighters I’ve seen. The way he worked Alves for two rounds without giving him a break shows you he is all about working hard. He also has good heart, also in the Alves fight in the third round it was all guts from Story, getting hit with crushing knees and kicks that would make a normal man fall. So one way I see this fight going is Story doing the same thing to Kim and going on to a late K.O or T.K.O.
2.Kim Holds Story
Kim is a huge welterweight at over six feet, he is also very strong too, you have to be to pull off his judo throws. He has one of the best top control games in the business and can be compared to some one like Jon Fitch. He has heavy hands and excellent Judo. In all of his UFC wins he has used his top control gifts to smother his opponent for three rounds. A way I see this fight going is that Kim would be too strong for Story, he will out wrestle and out grapple him for three rounds on the way to a UD win that he usually gets.
So if this battle of prospects happen it’ll be clear that who ever loses will become a gate keeper for the division while the winner will be on his way at a shot at GSP. However from what I’ve seen from both fighters I’ll have to go with Kim on this one. He is simply to big for Story to handle and will get taken down for the better part of the fight. If Kim comes in with better cardio and shape also, I’ll give him a late T.K.O ruling. So I think Kim takes it by UD or by late T.K.O.
