Tim Tebow Enters Black Hole, Comes Out A Winner

Tim Tebow made his second trip to the Oakland Coliseum as the starting quarterback for the Denver Broncos. Tebow didn't play badly that day, but he walked away a loser. Today he played much much better, brought home the bacon and delivered the team a victory. It wasn't really a great passing day for the prayerful one, but he hurt the Raiders on the ground as did Willis McGahee.

It was an onslaught on the ground against a helpless, Swiss cheese defense put out there by the Oakland Raiders. McGahee pounded it 20 times for a total of 163 yards and 2 touchdowns. Tebow's day didn't start very well as he was 4 of 10 for only 39 yards early on. His accuracy didn't pick up much, as his final line was 10-21, 124 yards and a couple of TD passes, one to Eric Decker and the other to Eddie Royal. Where Tebow made the difference was with his legs. He took off out of the pocket 12 times and hammered the Raiders for an additional 118 yards.

Denver seemed to run the ball at will today, and while Tebow was only sacked twice, it seemed like the pressure was relentless. That gave Tebow the chance to be creative as the plays broke down. Eventually they wore down the Raider front seven, and exposed them towards then end on a 60 yards touchdown run on the last play of the third quarter. Special teams also chipped in, as Eddie Royal returned a Shane Lechler punt 85 yards in the fourth quarter to put them ahead for good 31-24.

Carson Palmer led the Raiders, as he threw for over 300 yards and three touchdowns, unfortunately he also threw three interceptions. Palmers 332 yards were spread around as he connected with eight different receivers. Jacoby Ford led the way with 5 receptions for 105 yards and a touchdown. In the second quarter Palmer had two of his touchdowns, the first on a pass to the flat to Michael Bush for 11 yards. The second was a beautifully thrown ball down the seam to fullback Marcel Reese who caught the 40 yards strike in stride. Notably the Raiders best receiver over the last several games Darrius Heyward-Bey was a mysterious no show today. He wasn't on the field for much of the day, and only had one pass thrown in his direction and didn't catch it.

Michael Bush did a great job replacing Darren McFadden, as he rushed for 96 yards on 19 carries. He added a couple of catches for 33 more yards and a touchdown. The Raider offense did all they needed to do to win today, it was the defense that let them down. A blown coverage left Eric Decker withouta defender within five yards of him for Tebow's first TD pass. Special teams also had a let down on Royal's punt return. Luckily for them, the other AFC west teams couldn't find a way to win today either. After a loss like this, that isn't much consolation, as they have to come back quickly this week to face San Diego on Thursday night in SoCal.

You're right, this is no more than a Frankenstein like experiment, which should result in a similar ending.

Not only unsustainable, but not likely a winning formula for the NFL.

Yeah, at least other run capable QB's like Vick can throw for 300 yards per game. I think that Tebows days are number...soon to be Brady Quinn as their starter.

A QB with almost more rushing yards than passing yards, I am not sure if this is sustainable.
