Vin Scully Returning As Dodgers Announcer In 2014

The Los Angeles Dodgers have announced that longtime announcer Vin Scully will return for yet another season. Scully, at the ripe age of 85, shows no signs of slowing down. He will be entering his 65th season next year and looks forward to the challenge.

Wow, this man has forgotten more baseball than most of us will ever see in our entire lives. This man has been the voice for Dodger baseball for decades, and it's amazing that he's still going strong. I for one cannot imagine a season of Dodger baseball without hearing his voice on the T.V. and radio. His announcing is as sharp as it's ever been, and he really takes a genuine approach to how he calls the games. What I mean by that is that he tells stories about the different players that are quite interesting at times. He actually gets to know the players and what their lives are like off the field rather than just focus on what they do on the field.

Scully was quoted as saying that his health is great and he really sees no reason why he should call it quits after this season. He still loves what he is doing and he is impressed with the way the Dodgers have turned around their season this year. He also has the blessing of his wife to continue (which I'm sure, is extremely important!). I imagine that Scully is also reenergized by the way the Dodgers are playing, since the buzz that the Dodgers have created in Los Angeles has been incredible. They look to be a solid team for at least the next few years, and the new management has saved the Dodgers from being a disaster.

The city of Los Angeles is spoiled to have had two of the greatest announcers to have ever lived. The first, being Lakers announcer Chick Hearn, passed away in 2002. I know from experience that Laker games on T.V. have never felt the same since his passing. Dodger games still have that special feel from hearing the voice of Vin Scully calling the game with the kind of mastery and genuine love of the game that only he can provide.

There have been many good announcers to have come and gone in the world of sports, but only a few can be called legendary. Scully is right on that legendary level and he will forever be linked to the Dodgers as an important staple to the franchise.

Good article. Your luccky having had 2 announcers like that. Why should he stop when he loves what he is doing. It's when you stop or when you think you have to stop because of your age that you get old. Stay young in both body and mind and get excperiece a long and beautiful life.

Haha yeah we're spoiled as fans out here in Southern California. And the most important thing is that he still loves what he's doing and has the blessing of his wife to continue (THAT"S VERY IMPORTANT!! LOL). He actually WANTS to keep going and that's the main thing. I don't think there's anything else he'd rather do than be around the Dodgers.
