Poker is a game of strategy, reading your opponents, getting to know their habits and striking when you have the hot hand … or bluffing your opponents into thinking you have a hot hand. In terms of strategy, there are things you should avoid doing and in terms of poker etiquette, there are a number of things that are frowned upon, but at Wendover Resorts, there are some special don’ts while playing poker.
Here is what not to do while playing poker at Wendover:
1. Don’t forget to collect your One Club points
When you arrive at a table, make sure you check in with your One Club card so you can collect the valuable points that allow you to move up through the One Club tiers. The more you play, the more points you collect and the quicker you can become a Legend by going through the tiers of Member, VIP, Celebrity, Famous and then Legend.
2. Don’t worry about not being able to eat
Thanks to the Golden Harvest Cafe being next to the grand poker room at the Wendover Nugget Casino and Hotel, you can get full food service right there in the poker room. You don’t have to worry about being distracted by a rumbling from your tummy at Wendover.
3. Don’t be concerned about missing the game while you’re playing
With everyone being such a proficient multitasker nowadays, you can easily keep an eye on your favorite sports team even while you’re winning big in the Wendover Nugget Hotel and Casino’s grand poker room. The poker room has 42-inch LCD televisions that allow players to keep an eye on their favorite sports game while they play their favorite casino game.
4. Don’t fret about having to wait for drinks
In the Wendover Nugget Hotel and Casino’s grand poker room, there is a convenient beverage station located right in the poker room that is reserved exclusively for poker players. You don’t even have to leave to get a drink and you don’t have to wait long to get one, either.
5. Don’t hesitate to join a tournament
With guaranteed prizes of at least $2,000 on Friday and Saturday and $1,000 Sunday through Thursday, the Wendover Nugget Hotel and Casino’s poker room is always buzzing with activity, every day of the week. If you love the thrill of tournament play, buy in and get busy winning. Buy-in for tournaments Sunday through Thursday is $50, which gets you 6,000 tournament chips and buy-in on Friday and Saturday is $70, which also gets you 6,000 tournament chips. There is an optional $20 add-on for an additional 5,000 in tournament chips every day.
6. Don’t forget to try some poker variations
When you want to take a break from playing regular poker, you can try out some other games that still involve the same amount of strategy and are still just as fun as poker. Three Card Poker will give you the same thrill and Pai Gow Poker will have you strategizing just as much as any other type of poker.
7. Don’t skimp on treating yourself, your friends and your family with your winnings
When you inevitably win big at the poker tables, take those winnings and treat yourself and your friends and family to a great meal at one of the many restaurants at the Wendover Nugget or the Red Garter. Heck, if you’re really hungry, try multiple restaurants. Have an appetizer in the Golden Harvest Cafe, a main course in the Nugget Steakhouse and then hit up the Nugget Buffet’s dessert island for a sweet treat.
Or, treat everyone to a relaxing spa session, watch some live entertainment or play some golf. It will get you relaxed and ready for the next round of winning at poker.
8. Don’t celebrate too much when you win big
Every game has to have someone who doesn’t win and there is no use in rubbing it in with excessive celebration when you end up with that big ol’ pile of chips in front of you. Simply stack them up and congratulate everyone on a good game. There will be plenty of time and opportunity to bust out your celebratory dance later when it’s more appropriate.
By avoiding these faux pas, you can guarantee a pleasant poker experience at Wendover Resorts.
